Free MLB Picks, Tips and Odds: Boston Red Sox @ Chicago White Sox Rangers Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Expert Predictions 7/29/11: The Boston Red Sox split their four game set with the Kansas City Royals over the past week, but they still find themselves up 2.5 games over the Yanks in the highly contested American League East ranks. If it were not for a lapse in the fourth inning Josh Beckett would have had his 10th win on the season, however the fourth inning proved costly and ultimately rendered Josh with his fourth loss on the campaign. Beckett offered a juicy 1-2 favoring to Royals slugger Billy Butler and Butler made no mistake about it. Butler blasted a three sun shot to dead centre that catapulted K.C. into the lead and they never looked back. On a positive note, Adrian Gonzalez continued his impressive hitting streak and now owns a .357 AVG, which is tops in the entire league. With the trade deadline nearing the Red Sox have a few holes to fill, none more important then some bull pen relief. Boston’s pen has been vulnerable to say the least for the majority of the year and is in desperate need of some tweaking.
The trade of starting pitcher Edwin Jackson all but assured fans that the White Sox brass has given up on this season and they are conceding defeat to the Indians and Tigers. The Sox were involved in a blockbuster trade this past week with the Toronto Blue Jays in which they gave up Edwin Jackson and utility man Mark Teahen in a trade for reliever Jason Frasor and minor league pitching sensation Zach Stewart. The White Sox did two things in this deal, they cleared up some much needed salary space and they afforded themselves some much needed and consistent bullpen presence. Frasor, who became the longest tenured Blue Jay this past month, has blossomed over the past 5 years into a top-notch reliever. He has the ability to eat up innings and he has 2-3 strike out pitches, Jason will be a welcome addition to a pen that has underperformed all season long. On the opposite end of the scale, another ex-Blue Jay may actually be on his way out. Alex Rios has faltered at the plate and field for the majority of the season and he simply is not the break out player he once was for the Jays back in 2006. Ozzie Guillen pulled the plug on Rios and his bid to rebuild his game this past week when he rendered him to the bench. The White Sox would love nothing more then to find a suitor for the slumping centre fielder that would be willing to take on his heavily weighted back end contract.
Tonight we will recommend a play on the White Sox in what should be an exciting three game set this weekend against the heavy weight Red Sox. If the White Sox have any postseason aspirations then they will have to shut up their naysayer’s and perform against some top notch clubs, no better time then now as the White Sox follow up a series with the Red Sox with the New York Yankees. The next 7 outings all come against these two American League East behemoths and the White Sox could do some serious damage to both their chase in the wildcard and the central. Tim Wakefield will get the ball for the Red Sox tonight who will be looking to pick up his 7th win on the season, the ageless veteran has had issues with the White Sox over his 20 year career. In fact, Wakefield has not pitched past the 7th inning against the White Sox in over two years, which does not bode well for the Red Sox pen. Boston Red Sox’s relievers have pitched 10⅔ innings in the last 3 games and might be forced into action early with Wakefield on the mound. Boston is 0-5 SU in their last 5 games when playing the Chicago White Sox and s 1-4 SU in their last 5 games when playing on the road against this same club. The White Sox have been playing some pretty admirable ball as of late and it looks as though they are ready for the grind of the last two months of baseball, the White Sox are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games. We will consider in the battle of Sox’s tonight, the White ones will emerge victorious. Cheers!
