Free MLB Picks and Odds: Toronto Blue Jays at Seattle Mariners Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Predictions 4/11/11: The Toronto Blue Jays are showing that their road woes are not behind them and that they are just not willing to make the jump to legitimacy. They were lucky to salvage one win out of the three game set with the Angels over the weekend, the series saw them out hit, out hustled, and out coached. They left runners on base, committed errors, and did not give their pitchers run support. Ricky Romero continued his solid play with a no decision on Saturday night, the third year Californian has settled in quite nicely as the teams’ number one pitcher. He is controlling his pitch count, keeping men on base, and is finally squeaking his way out of jams. The entire rotation has been consistent, which has some fans optimistic about this clubs’ chances this season. Brenden Morrow is still a few weeks away from returning, but when he does the five man rotation of the Jays’ will be stacked.
The Seattle Mariners are once again out of the gates cold and slow. They are off to a 2-7 start after an offseason that brought in key acquisitions and a new bench boss. After a 2-0 start the wheels have collapsed for this club, the main reason being pitching. Seattle has given up the most runs in the league thus far and their 5 man rotation is extremely vulnerable. They are giving too many free bases and not allowing their bull pen much needed rest in between games. The offense also has not been consistent; they lead the majors in strikeouts, are bottom in the league in RBI, and have the lowest average WHIP among all teams. Ichiro Suzuki has gotten off to a relatively, by his standards, slow start as his average is .250. He is among the game’s best lead-off hitters but teams are finally zeroing in on his tendencies and high swing. He has struck out 7 times already and has yet to hit a double.
The play tonight is with the Blue Jays. The offense can only be hindered for so long and I expect them to rebound huge tonight against a struggling Hernandez on the mound. Jose Bautista is bound for a big game as he has been hitless in two, watch for him to possibly knock one over the fence. The Mariners just do not have the hitting required to outlast Jesse Litsch. Litsch rebounded quite nicely from his summer of rehab and his curve ball has really been improved. We will consider the Blue Jays opening the three game set with a win tonight. Cheers!
