It was new infielder Scott Sizemore who delivered on a bases clearing double to deep right centre that vaulted the A’s into the two run lead. New skipper, Bob Melvin, earned his first victory as Oaklands head man and he believes he has a club that can turn the tide in the latter half of the year. He has given a vote of confidence across the entire board to his players and he has reinserted Kurt Suzuki to the starting line-up, an outcast a week ago. The Athletics will send their ace in Gio Gonzalez to the mount tonight who will be looking for his sixth win of the season.

The Chicago White Sox went out this past off-season and spent the most amount, out of all clubs, on their bull-pen. They might, quite arguably, posses the worst bull-pen in the entire league to date and Ozzie Guillen’s patience is running dry. Yet another win blown on the shoulders of Chicago’s inept bull-pen. Sergio Santos, who many believed was on the cusp of being an all-star reliever, has been extremely inconsistent and is definitely no living up to his billing. Chris Sale is arguably the White Sox only viable option in the pen, but he still totes around an ERA of 4.62. For the money that the White Sox brass spent this past Winter they should be getting much more production out of this unit and it will continue to be a focal point on this club until some saves are recorded. On a positive note, Paul Konerko banged out his 16th round-tripper of the season and all signs point to him returning to all-star caliber form. He is the unquestioned captain of this young White Sox club with his long tenure and lead by example mentality. Ozzie Guillen is relying on Konerko to re-tool his game in hopes of vaulting this Chicago club into AL Central contention comes late September.

John Danks will get the ball tonight for the reeling Sox, a player who desperately needs a strong performance. Danks is in the midst of his worst start to a season and there are some out there that believe his best days are well behind him. They have not won consecutive games in over a month and I expect them to sit right back into their inept seat tonight in the second game at Cellular Field.
