MLB Betting Preview: Red Sox vs Yankees in London
One of the biggest rivalries in baseball will move across the pond for a series in London later this week. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees do not like each other, and both teams are trying to win the American League East this season. Each team has their respective flaws, but there is no doubt that both teams are World Series contenders this season, and they should put on a good show for the folks in London.
Boston comes into the week slumping a bit, and their record has dropped to just 42-37. The Red Sox got off to a miserable start to the season and have been trying to play catch up since the first few weeks of the season. The Red Sox trail the Yankees by eight games in the AL East Division and really can’t afford to lose this weekend. New York recently rattled off eight straight wins to blow past the Tampa Bay Rays in the division race. The Yankees enter the week with a record of 49-28 and should just keep getting better as they get some players back from the injured list.
Yankees Have Tons of Young Sluggers
The Yankees have been without the services of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton for much of the 2019 season, but that hasn’t stopped them from blasting 126 home runs. Catcher Gary Sanchez is having the best season of his young career, and leads the team with 23 home runs and 52 runs batted in. DJ LeMahieu was also a great pickup by the Yankees in the offseason, and sets the table for their offense with a .322 batting average. This lineup is a pitcher’s worst nightmare, and will just get even better as the summer goes on.
New York actually doesn’t have a starting pitcher lined up for this game, and will likely be forced to go with their talented arms in the bullpen. The Yankees have about five potential closers in their bullpen, and they can all bring the heat. Aroldis Chapman has lost a few miles per hour on his fastball, but still has 21 saves this season. Adam Ottavino is usually the 8th inning guy and has been credited with 17 holds. New York is doing everything well of late, and they will be a tough team to beat.
Boston Needs Solid Outing From Porcello
Pitching has been a real issue for the Red Sox this season, but they will have one of their top pitchers on the mound in this game. Rick Porcello has gone just 5-7 with a 4.52 earned run average so far this season, but he has proven that he can get the job done in the big leagues. Porcello has allowed just 12 home runs this season, and that should help him try to navigate through a difficult and powerful Yankees lineup.
Boston has a terrific lineup in their own right, and they have seven different players with at least 10 home runs this season. JD Martinez is leading the team with 16 home runs, but he isn’t having the same year that he had in 2018. Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is still just hitting .216 on the season, and that has really killed the Red Sox chances to score runs. Boston is going to have to win this game with their pitching, but their offense will have to score as well.
Red Sox Win Opener Over Yankees
The New York Yankees are the much better team this season, but the Red Sox are more desperate for a win. The Red Sox will get a solid start from Rick Porcello and will find just enough offense to get the win. Bet the Boston Red Sox over the New York Yankees from London.
