The 29 year-old native of Farmington, MO went 10-5 with a 2.53 ERA last season for the Cubs in 25 games started. The 6-4, 225 pounder was very impressive in allowing just 114 hits in 156.2 innings pitched last year for the Cubs and had 167 strikeouts to go against just 41 walks. The 156.2 innings pitched was the most he pitched in his career thus far. Arrieta faced the Cardinals four times last season and allowed just 3 earned runs in 22 1/3 innings pitched.
