The 6-0, 195 pound native of Kaohsiung, Taiwan is 0-0 with a 4.35 ERA on the 2015 season so far as he earned no decisions in his first two starts against the Rays and Yankees. Last time out, Chen pitched 6 solid innings and only allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits in a 6-5 Orioles loss against the Bronx Bombers on April 13th.

Chen will look to pick up his first win of the season against a Red Sox team that he’s enjoyed some decent success against in his career. Chen has faced and started against the Red Sox 11 times in his career thus far and is 5-3 overall with a 4.24 ERA. He has tossed 63.2 innings and allowed 30 earned runs on 77 hits to go with 51 strikeouts and 13 walks in his career against Boston. Those numbers don’t look that great but they fail to tell the entire story. Chen dominated the Red Sox in his final three starts against them in 2014 as he went 3-0 and allowed just 4 earned runs on 11 hits in 19 innings.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell will turn to right-hander Justin Masterson as the Red Sox look to avoid dropping their 3rd in a row to the Orioles and avoid falling out of first place. The Red Sox enter this game tied with the Orioles for 1st place in the AL East at 7-5 and Masterson will toe the rubber looking to improve upon his 1-0 record this season. The 6-6, 260 pound native of Kingston, Jamaica has an enormous 7.59 ERA on the season despite being 1-0 as he was destroyed in his last outing against the Washington Nationals at Fenway. Masterson only lasted 4.2 innings against the Nationals and was tagged for 7 earned runs on 8 hits in a game the Red Sox found a way to still win by a score of 8-7.

Masterson may not have much luck turning it around on Monday against an Orioles team that he’s struggled against in his career. He is just 6-6 with a 5.53 ERA in 16 appearances including 12 starts against Baltimore in his career. The 30 year-old veteran has pitched 71.2 innings in his career against the Orioles and has allowed 44 earned runs on 78 hits to go with 68 K’s and 26 bases on balls. He only faced the Orioles one time last season while pitching for the St Louis Cardinals and he picked up a loss on August 8th, 2014 after only lasting 2 innings and giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits in a 12-2 Cardinals loss.

We absolutely love this game Monday in favor of the Baltimore Orioles and Chen at +121 odds. The Orioles have dominated the Red Sox over the last two days and they have a huge edge in the starting pitching category for this game Monday morning. Masterson was awful all last season pitching for the Cleveland Indians and St Louis Cardinals and has picked up right where he left off so far pitching for the Red Sox this season. Frankly, the guy stinks. He’s terrible. He’s a bum. No other way to get around it and we simply won’t sugar coat it. Seriously, we can’t even understand why he is still a starter in this league. We look for the Orioles to get to him early and often and take the series from the Red Sox and leave Beantown in 1st place in the AL East.
