Los Alamitos Race Course is a superb thoroughbred racetrack located in Cypress, California. Los Alamitos runs both thoroughbred horse racing and quarter horse racing. The track is popular for having over 155 racing days on average each year. The track has three seperate meets exclusively for thoroughbreds with a summer meet(late June to mid-July), the Los Angeles County Fair(12 days in September) at Los Alamitos and the winter meet(8 days in December).
Los Alamitos opened in 1951 and is host to the Los Alamitos $2 Million Futurity, GRADE 1 $300,000 Starlet Stakes, GRADE 2 Los Alamitos Futurity and the Champions of Champions, a stakes championship race for quarter horses. The dirt oval track was expanded to 1 mile in 2014 after Hollywood Park closed in 2013. Most notably, California Chrome won the Winter Challenge Classic at Los Alamitos on December 17, 2016.

“Fellas, Los Alamitos is one of the best tracks in the game and one of my favorites on the West Coast. It’s not Santa Anita but what is? It’s still a fantastic course to watch races at and bet on. In fact, it’s the best quarter horse track in the nation in my opinion and the one I DOMINATE the most at. I LOVE the quarter horse racing at Los Alamitos! I know the trainers and jockeys personally and I know who the LIVE horses are and who the ones to toss are at a high clip at this track. The thoroughbred action here is not the best quality and is limited compared to other California tracks but who cares? It’s about making money and I’d rather bet and win on $7500 maiden claimers than lose on graded stakes races anyday of the week. Get my point? It’s all about cashing tickets and I clean up at Los Alamitos. Year in. Year out. I LOVE this track and look forward to attending a bunch of days every year. It’s a well run facility by great people!”
