Maybe he is one dimensional in that aspect, but bettors are trying to pick the winner of the Kentucky Derby, not the most versatile horse in the field. In order to win the Derby, a horse needs to run well on dirt, and Archarcharch has proven he can do that.

The Derby’s one and a quarter mile length could also play in Archarcharch’s favor. The event will be the longest that a majority of the horses in the field will have faced, and stamina often becomes an issue in the final stages. The Arkansas Derby that he won was only a quarter mile shorter than the Derby, and his last four starts have come at tracks a mile in length or longer. More importantly, Archarcharch comes from a line of horses famous for their stamina. His pedigree allows him to make his move late in races, which could pay huge dividends in a large Derby field.

Bettors may be reluctant to buy into Archaracharch because the horse was a relative unknown prior to his win in the Arkansas Derby. However, the victory was simply a statement on a big stage to back up his other accomplishments. This horse has been bred and trained for races like the Kentucky Derby, and he is definitely worth backing.
