The 7th ranked Michigan Wolverines come into this 2019 season opener with high expectations. Michigan is a popular pick to win the Big Ten title this season and has an opportunity to get into the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history.

Michigan has not won the Big Ten title since 2003. Fans, alumni and boosters are getting impatient with 5th year head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is 38-14 in his tenure as Wolverines head coach but is just 1-9 against top 10 teams and an ugly 0-4 versus Ohio State.

Michigan had one of the best defenses in the nation last season but lost a lot to the NFL Draft. Only 4 starters return from a unit that allowed just 19.4 ppg last season. However, plenty of talent exists and Harbaugh has done a great job recruiting. Look for Michigan’s secondary to arguably be the best in the Big Ten led by senior CB Lavert Hill and senior free safety Josh Metellus.

Middle Tennessee State comes into this season off of an 8-6 campaign last year. The Blue Raiders reached the title game in the Conference USA and the father-son duo of head coach Rick Stockstill and quarterback Brent Stockstill won the league’s coach of the year and MVP awards.

This season will be different as the younger Stockstill graduated and the old man must find a replacement for his signal caller. The Blue Raiders have 11 starters returning from last season and will also have to solve an anemic running game that averaged just 3.6 ypc last year.
