Week 6 Free College Football Picks and Spreads: Boise State Broncos @ Fresno State Bulldogs 2011 NCAA Football Vegas Odds, Free Picks, and Expert Predictions on ESPN 10/7/11: Fresh off avenging their only loss from a year ago against Nevada, the fifth-ranked Boise State Broncos (4-0) will continue their quest for an undefeated season and a BCS bowl appearance when the travel to face Fresno State (2-3) Friday night. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain the Broncos high-powered offense in the past, but Pat Hill’s bunch will certainly be eager to try to pull the upset and end any national title hopes that Boise State may have. However, Fresno State will be facing an uphill battle, and the Bulldogs are 20 ½-point underdogs in this matchup.

While the Broncos are motivated by the chance to play for a national title, the Bulldogs need to look no further than last year’s meeting for inspiration. At home on the blue turf, Boise State dismantled Fresno State, winning 51-0 when all was said and done. The Bulldogs had no answers on defense and were a complete mess on offense. Considering that the Broncos return plenty of starters from last year’s team, the makings of another blowout could be in the works.

If there is a silver lining for Hill’s team, it is that Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is coming off one of the worst games of his career. Moore is on his way to becoming the all-time winningest QB in NCAA history and has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for his career. However, he was held under 200 yards by Nevada in his last start and completed less than 60 percent of his throws. If Moore has a repeat performance Friday night, the Bulldogs’ chances increase exponentially. Fresno State certainly can’t afford to allow Moore to repeat his performance from last year’s meeting when he topped 300 yards and threw four touchdowns.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, stopping opposing offenses hasn’t been their strong suit this season. In fact, Fresno State has been burned by big plays on a consistent basis. The Bulldogs have been giving up more than 32 points a game, ranking among the 25 worst teams in the country. With Moore and company averaging nearly 37 points a game this season, the Bulldogs shaky defense could be exposed once again in this matchup.

One way the Bulldogs can slow down the Broncos offense is to control the clock with running back Robbie Rouse. He is averaging more than 100 yards per game this season, and if can keep the Fresno State offense on the field, Moore and the Boise State offense will be on the sideline. Rouse was bottled up by the Broncos early on in last year’s game, and once the Bulldogs fell behind, he became an afterthought. Rouse has to play a major role in Friday’s game if Fresno State is going to avoid a repeat of last year’s debacle.

As if the Broncos needed any extra firepower, they may have the X-factor in this contest. Receiver Geraldo Boldewijn will make his season debut Friday after the NCAA ruled on his eligibility. Boldewijn is a 6-foot-4 player with deep threat speed. His size could be particularly useful in the red zone.

At the end of the day, the Broncos just have more talent than the Bulldogs, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The odds of Moore having two bad games in a row are slim, and based on last year’s outcome, it is hard to imagine Fresno State suddenly becoming competitive.  The Bulldogs’ defense has been porous all season, and the Boise State offense should be able to pile up more than enough points to cover the spread.
