Florida Gators 2010 NCAAF Preview, Schedule, Odds, and Predictions: The Tim Tebow era is over and the former Heisman Trophy-winner’s season ended without a bang, neither BCS National Championship nor another Heisman. Tebow is the number one selling NFL jersey however! The Gators will break in four new assistant coaches and at least 13 new first teamers on offense and defense but Urban Meyer feels good about it. “I’m used to not having Tim around,” he says. “It doesn’t mean I like it. But I have a team now with a chip on its shoulder. It’s exciting to have that again.” He should as Florida is ranked no lower than number 3 in any of the major preseason polls. Vegas odds makers have the Florida Gators +900 odds to win the 2011 BCS National Championship.
Quarterback John Brantley waited for his oppurtunity after spending three years as a backup and now he will be one of the best signal callers in the SEC. “It feels like my huddle now,” Brantley says. “I just want to keep it going. We’re not going to take a step back at all.” Florida will be a better passing team with Brantley at quarterback. They will platoon speedster Jeff Demps (won the 60 meter NCAA title this spring), power runner Emmanuel Moody and Mike Gillislee at running back. Also look for freshman Mack Brown to get some reps. The line is solid and deep and should provide time for Brantley to find his targets and with a bunch of speedy receivers it will be interesting to see who steps up as his go to guy. The odds makers at BetUS have the Florida Gators + 250 to win the South Eastern Conference.
The Gators front four have struck fear in opposing quarterbacks the last few years and look for that to continue as Justin Trattou, who has played a lot of tackle in the Gators’ Joker package, but will likely start at end. Florida has a plethora of talent and speed at linebacker. “I like the group,” says new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. “I like the effort. We have enough guys who can play.” Cornerback Janoris Jenkins returns as does Ahmad Black at strong safety to lead a strong secondary. . The odds makers at BetUS have the Florida Gators middle number listed at over/under 10 wins for the 2010 NCAAF regular season.
Back to back to back top recruiting seasons have the Gators stacked with talented athletes at nearly every position and Head Coach Urban Meyer has shown the knack for putting it together into a winning package. I have the Florida Gators at number 2 in my preseason poll and look for them to be undefeated rolling into Alabama on October 2nd to play the Tide with the winner having the inside track on the BCS National Championship.
