The 3rd ranked Georgia Bulldogs enter this 2019 season with National Championship expectations and with good reason. Head coach Kirby Smart welcomes back 13 starters from last year’s 11-3 team that won the SEC East Division.
Smart is an impressive 32-10 overall heading into his 4th season as head coach in Athens. This 2019 Bulldogs team looks to be his most talented and complete team yet in our opinion. Leading the way is junior quarterback Jake Fromm. The 6-2, 220 pound signal caller threw for 2749 yards and 30 touchdowns last season to go with a 171.2 efficiency rating.
Georgia’s offense will be explosive and high scoring behind Fromm and a talented ground game. However, it’s the defense that has Bulldogs fans thinking National Title. The Bulldogs defense allowed just 19.2 ppg last year and welcome back 7 returning starters. Look for the defense to arguably be the best in the SEC and nation.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are coming off of a 6-7 2018 campaign that saw them reach the Texas Bowl. They ended up losing 45-38 to Baylor to finish under .500 overall but it was nice progress for the program under head coach Derek Mason.
Mason is now 24-38 overall as Vandy head coach as he heads into his 6th season in Nashville. This year’s Vanderbilt team looks capable of getting back to a bowl game with 11 returning starters and having reached a bowl game in 2 of the last 3 seasons.
The offense will be led by new quarterback, senior Riley Neal. The Ball State transfer looks to replace three year starter Kyle Shurmur who graduated. Neal is a capable quarterback that completed 60 percent of his passes in four seasons at Ball State. He’s not great by any means but is solid. Neal will have a talented skill position players around him led by running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn(1244 rushing yards and 12 TDs in 2018).
The real question for Vandy this year is their defense. They lost 6 starters including both starting corners. If the defense can find a way to stay competive in the SEC than they have a shot at reaching .500 and getting back to a bowl.
Georgia @ Vanderbilt Free Pick and Score Prediction: Georgia to cover as a -21 point favorite.
