The Washington State Cougars enter this week 6-1 overall and 7-0 against the spread. The Cougars are coming off of a big 34-20 win at home over Oregon last Saturday. The Cougars are now 3-1 overall in the PAC 12 North Division and control their own destiny if they can win out the rest of the season.
The Cougars jumped out to a dominant 27-0 halftime lead last week over Oregon and held on for the comfortable 2 touchdown win. The Cougars racked up 400 total yards of offense and were led by senior quarterback Gardner Minshew who threw for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns. Minshew did throw 2 interceptions but continued his overall solid play this season and now has 23 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions on the season.
The Washington State offense is averaging an impressive 475.1 yards per game and 6.4 yards per play. The vast majority comes thru the passing game as they pass for 400.7 yards per game and rush for just 74.4 yards per game on 3.5 yards per carry. The Cougars defense allows 314.6 yards per game and 4.9 yards per play.
The Stanford Cardinal enter this week with a 5-2 overall record and 4-3 against the spread. The Cardinal are coming off of a 20-13 road win at Arizona State on October 18th. The Cardinal are now 3-1 in the Pac 12 North Division setting themselves up to win the division if they can win out the rest of the season.
Stanford’s win last week at Arizona State stopped the bleeding for the Cardinal after they had lost their two previous games. Stanford lost 40-21 on October 6th at home and 38-17 the week prior on September 29th at Notre Dame. Stanford has an opportunity the next two weeks to take control of the PAC 12 North Division if it can beat Washington State this Saturday and go up to Washington next Saturday and beat the Huskies.
Stanford’s offense comes in averaging 354.7 yards per game and 5.9 yards per play. Surprisingly, the Stanford rushing game has been a big time disappointment so far as it’s posting just 91.6 yards per game and 3.1 yards per carry. The Cardinal defense is allowing 405 yards per game and 5.6 yards per play.
Washington State has won the last two meetings including a 24-21 win last season at home. Washington State won 42-16 at Stanford two season ago. Despite that success we still like Stanford to get it done this Saturday at home against a Washington State team that has struggled defensively so far on the road giving up 37 points at Oregon State and 39 points at USC. Look for Stanford to win a high scoring game.
