The Florida State Seminoles are off to a sluggish 3-2 overall record and 1-4 against the spread so far this season. The Seminoles are coming in off of a 28-24 win at Louisville last Saturday for their 1st ACC win of the year after losing to Syracuse and Virginia Tech in September.
FSU head coach Willie Taggart hasn’t exactly made a great first impression so far in his first year at the helm of the FSU program. However, that can all change quickly if he can somehow find a way to spring the huge upset this week against one of FSU’s most hated rivals. FSU lost last year to Miami-Fl in Tallahassee by a 24-20 score and that snapped a 7 game winning streak by FSU in the series.
FSU has had it’s struggles offensively so far this season and comes in posting just 372.8 yards per game and 5.3 yards per play. Taggart was brought in because of his reputation as a high powered offensive coach but so far his system has been a dud thru 5 games. The FSU defense has also been mediocre so far and allows 385.4 yards per game and 5.2 yards per play.
The Miami-Fl Hurricanes come into this rivalry game with a 4-1 overall record and 3-2 against the spread. The Hurricanes have bounced back nicely from a 33-17 season opening loss against LSU in Dallas, TX. Miami-Fl beat North Carolina 47-10 last Thursday night at home and easily covered the -18.5 point spread.
Miami-FL head coach Mark Richt is doing a nice job so far in his 3rd season at the controls of the proud Hurricanes football program. Richt is now 23-8 so far on the job and has a team this season that is more then talented enough to run the table the rest of the regular season and win the ACC Coastal Division for the 2nd straight season.
The Hurricanes have a well balanced squad this season on both sides of the ball. The offense averages 430.2 yards per game and 6.4 yards per play while the defense allows just 244.8 yards per game and 4 yards per play. Those are dominant numbers and the Hurricanes are underrated and under ranked in our opinion at #17 as there is now way there are 16 ranked teams that are better then them.
The Hurricanes should mop the field with the Seminoles on paper but this is a rivalry game. The last 4 meetings between these two hated rivals have been decided by 4, 1, 5 and 4 points. You can throw the records, rankings and stats out the window when these two teams go against each other. Look for FSU to keep things respectable and cover the spread while losing outright.
Florida St @ #17 Miami-Fl Free Pick and Score Prediction: Florida State to cover as a +14 point underdog.
