2017 Week 3 College Football Predictions – Texas @ USC Odds & Free Pick 9/16/17

Texas Longhorns enter this game 1-1 overall after bouncing back from their week 1 51-41 home loss to Maryland with a 56-0 win at home against San Jose State last week. Texas covered the -26.5 spread last week and are now 1-1 against the spread this season.

The Longhorns offense has been impressive in both their games this season as they totaled 473 yards against Maryland and 623 total yards against San Jose State. The Longhorns running game was very impressive last week as they rushed for 406 team yards as starting quarterback Shane Buechelle didn’t play due to a shoulder injury. Junior running back Chris Warren III leads the Longhorns in rushing this season with 197 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Shane Buechelle could return this week but he will be far from 100 percent if he suits up so expect a lot of running from Texas this week.

On the defensive side, Texas could be in trouble this week. The Longhorns held an overmatched San Jose State team to just 171 total yards last week but struggled mightily against Maryland. The Longhorns gave up 482 yards to Maryland in their 51-41 week 1 loss. If Texas doesn’t bring their “A” game this week then things could get ugly against USC’s explosive offense.

The USC Trojans come into this primetime week 3 game with an overall record of 2-0 and 1-1 against the spread. USC opened it’s season with a 49-31 home win over Western Michigan as a -28 point favorite and came back last week and beat Stanford 42-24 as a -4 point favorite.

The Trojans offense is arguably the best in the nation talent-wise and it’s led by projected top NFL draft pick, sophomore quarterback Sam Darnold. Darnold has thrown for 605 yards and 4 touchdowns so far but also has 4 interceptions. Darnold has thrown two picks in each game this season but is much better than those stats indicate and he could break out in a big way this week against a suspect Texas defense.

The USC defense has been solid thru the first two weeks. It gave up 357 yards to Western Michigan and 342 to Stanford. Those numbers aren’t great but they are more than good enough with the talent USC has on offense. Head coach Clay Helton and defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast will take those numbers all season long as USC can be a legit National Title contender if the defense is simply above average.

Who are we betting on to cover the spread in this Texas @ USC clash? We are betting on USC to run up the score and win in a blowout. The USC offense is simply unstoppable and Texas won’t have an answer for it. With Texas’ best passing quarterback banged up it will be hard for them to keep up once USC opens up a two score lead.
