Miami Ohio Redhawks(+550 odds to win MAC) – Head coach Chuck Martin was just 5-25 overall in his first two plus seasons thru October 8th last season before the Redhawks finally put it all together and reeled off 6 straight MAC wins to finish 6-6 overall and earn a bid in the St Petersburg Bowl. The Redhawks had a chance to beat Mississippi State in that bowl but couldn’t nail a game winning field goal late in the game and lost 17-16. Miami Ohio returns 16 starters from last year’s team and have big expectations heading into this season. The offense was putrid as it scored just 22.8 points per game to finish a woeful 114th nationally last season but the defense was a different story as it only allowed 23.8 points per game to finish 31st nationally. The Redhawks are built around their defense and that defense should be even better this season with 8 returning starters led by stud senior defensive back Heath Harding who should be a 1st team ALL MAC selection and be a 1st day NFL Draft selection in 2017. The offense should once again be very explosive as senior quarterback Logan Woodside returns in 2017 to build upon a strong junior season that saw him throw for 4129 yards and 45 touchdowns. The offense should have more help this season from the defense as the unit should be improved from last year’s solid unit with 7 starters back and Toledo should have a more balanced team overall this season as they look to get to the MAC Title Game and win it. 2017 Projection 9-4, 6-2 MAC
