2017 College Football Picks & Predictions – Week 2 NCAA Football Free Picks for 9/2/17: There is a big board this week for week 2 of the 2017 College Football season with games scheduled all over the country. The kick off to the College Football season took place last season but this week is really the unofficial first week for bettors and fans nationwide. Massachusetts -2.5 over Coastal Carolina UMass put on a solid showing last week at home against Hawaii in a 38-35 loss. Head coach Mark Whipple had to be encouraged with the performance offensively as the offense had 413 yards total with 298 in the passing game and 115 rushing to go along with 35 points. Umass takes on a Coastal Carolina team that’s making the jump up from FCS. The Chanticleers went 10-2 last season in FCS but only returns 3 starters on offense and 5 on defense from that team. Making the leap to FBS is no small task and they will struggle mightily this season. It starts Saturday at home against UMass. Lay the points and bet UMass -2.5 at Intertops Sportsbook.

Illinois -7 over Ball State Head coach Lovie Smith begins his 2nd season in Champaign, IL as the Illini head coach and Illinois should show improvement across the board this season after a tough 3-9 season last year. Smith is a sound football coach that’s won on the NFL level and his system should translate better this season after a full year of implanting in at the program. Only 8 starters return from last season but we feel the overall talent is improved and they are facing a cupcake in Ball State to open up their season. Ball State went just 4-8 in the MAC last season and should be cellar dweller again this season in the conference. We look for a bigger and faster Illinois team to have some fun against a terrible Ball State team to start their 2017 season. Lay the points and bet Illinois -7 at Bovada Sportsbook.

Texas -18.5 over Maryland A new era of Longhorns football begins on Saturday as new head coach Tom Herman begins his tenure as the man in charge at Texas. Herman went 22-4 in two seasons as head coach at Houston and is one of the best young coaches in the sport.
He now inherits a Texas team that underachieved the last few seasons but has plenty of talent to make a run at 9-10 wins this season. 16 starters including 10 on defense return from last year’s 5-7 team. The key is sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele who should make considerable improvement this season under Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck. Texas’ offense should be much improved over last season’s unit that ranked 46th in scoring at 31.9 ppg and 16th in total yards at 491.3 ypg. Maryland is coming off a 6-7 season last year and return 12 starters. However, they went 2-7 in their finals 9 games and that’s what they really are and not the team that started 4-0 against cream puffs last year.
