The betting odds for college football week 2 have been out all summer long and have generated a lot of betting volume at the vegas sportsbooks and the top USA betting sites. Today we look at some major line movements in games across the nation this week and what it means to help bettors make good college football picks to bet on and make money this weekend.
2017 College Football Betting Line Movement Week 2 – Vegas Sharps Moving The Lines 9/2/17
Bowling Green @ Michigan State, 12 PM EST on Saturday 9/2/17 The betting line on this non-conference matchup opened with Michigan State listed as a strong -20 point favorite and the total opened at over/under 56.5 points. However, the money has poured in so far on Bowling Green as Michigan State may be getting too much respect on the line as they went just 3-9 last season and could hover around .500 this season with only 5 starters returning. Meanwhile, Bowling Green went 4-8 last year but should be improved with 11 starters returning.
The line now stands at Michigan State -17 at Intertops, Wynn and MGM Grand with the total at over/under 53.5 points all 5Dimes, Wynn and MGM Grand. Bovada has the line at Michigan St -17.5 and over/under 54 -115. We recommend a bet on Michigan St on the current line of -17 and we think the line will move back up as we get closer to kick off on Saturday.
Western Michigan @ USC, 5:15 PM EST on Saturday 9/2/17 The odds for this matchup on the west coast opened this summer with USC a strong -23.5 point favorite and the total opened at over/under 55.5 points. The big number on USC hasn’t scared away sharps and the public from hammering USC so far as the current line is all the way up to USC -27 at Bovada and Wynn, while it’s at -27.5 at MGM Grand. You can still bet on USC at -26.5 at Intertops. The total is now at 58 at Bovada, Wynn and MGM Grand.
USC is a popular pick to challenge for the 2018 College Football Playoff National Title and is the favorite to win the PAC 12. USC has Heisman Trophy favorite and projected #1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, quarterback Sam Darnold. We can definitely see why the money has come in heavy on USC so far as the opening line was soft in our opinion. Even at the new number we still will put in a bet on USC to cover the -27 point spread and roll against a Western Michigan team replacing it’s head coach plus it’s starting quarterback and best offensive player from last season.
South Alabama @ Ole Miss, 7:30 PM EST on Saturday 9/2/17 The odds on the spread for this week 2 college football matchup have gone down considerably since the summer opening line. This betting line opened with Ole Miss a strong -27 point favorite and the total opened at over/under 59 points. However, the wiseguys have pounced on South Alabama plus the points after Ole Miss fired it’s head coach Hugh Freeze this summer. The line now stands at Ole Miss -24 at Bovada, Wynn and MGM Grand and Ole Miss -23.5 at Intertops and 5Dimes. The total hasn’t moved much and is 58 at Bovada, 58.5 at 5Dimes, 57.5 at Wynn and 59 at MGM Grand.
Ole Miss has 11 starters returning from last season’s 5-7 team that disappointed. They now must begin this season under a new head coach and they are replacing their starting quarterback the past few seasons as Chad Kelly went to the NFL. Meanwhile, South Alabama has 11 starters back from a 6-7 squad last season but 6 starters back on a defense that’s respectable. We don’t see Ole Miss being dominant enough on either side of the ball to cover this spread even with the line coming down. Bet on South Alabama +24 at Bovada.
