2016 College Football Bowl Game Picks & Predictions: Miami Beach Bowl, Boca Raton Bowl, Poinsettia Bowl & Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Miami Beach Bowl: Central Michigan vs. Tulsa
If you are play in a bowl game challenge, you will want to put plenty of confidence points on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in this one. Led by quarterback Dane Evans, Tulsa boasts a balanced, powerful offense that averages more than 41 points and more than 260 passing and rushing yards per game. In fact, Tulsa scored at least 30 points in every game this year with the exception of a loss to Ohio State.
That powerful offense should have no problem rolling over a Central Michigan Chippewas team that faded down the stretch, losing four of their last five games. Tulsa cruises in this one to open the week.
Prediction: Tulsa Golden Hurricane (-12) Cover the Spread
Boca Raton Bowl: Memphis vs. Western Kentucky
If you are a fan of high-powered offenses, make sure to tune into this one. Led by quarterback Mike White and receiver Taywan Taylor, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers rank second in the country in points per game. The Memphis Tigers aren’t far behind, ranking 17th in scoring. I really don’t see either defense making many stops, and this game could come down to which offense has the ball last. With that in mind, I’ll take Memphis because the Tigers are getting a few points.
Prediction: Memphis Tigers (+4) Cover the Spread
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl: BYU vs. Wyoming
Give the Wyoming Cowboys credit. They bounced back from a 2-10 season to make a bowl game, averaging more than 37 points per game thanks to the 1-2 punch of quarterback Josh Allen and running back Brian Hill. However, the BYU Cougars might be the most battle-tested team outside the Power 5 conferences, with their four losses coming by a combined eight points to Utah, UCLA, West Virginia and Boise State.
Granted, BYU will be without quarterback Taysom Hill, but the Cougars are used to playing without and winning without their oft-injured quarterback. More importantly, they are the much superior defensive team, and they have contained plenty of potent offenses. The Cougars should control this one with their defense and emerge with the win.
Prediction: BYU Cougars (-8.5) Cover the Spread
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Idaho vs. Colorado State
The Idaho Vandals have the better record in this matchup, but the Colorado State Rams played a better schedule and are going to show that they are the better team. The Rams have been rolling on offense since taking over as quarterback. He has tossed multiple touchdowns in six straight games, and the Rams have scored at least 46 points in each of their last three games. Colorado State will simply be too much for Idaho.
Prediction: Colorado State Rams (-13.5) Cover the Spread
