2015 Free College Football Picks: Week 13 Picks for Saturday
No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 10 Michigan Wolverines
One of the most storied rivalries in college football lost a little bit of luster after the defending national champion Buckeyes lost last weekend to Michigan State, but both sides are still ranked in the top 10 and could still make some noise on the national stage depending on how things go with the teams ahead of them. Plus, these programs flat out hate each other. The game figures to be a defensive battle, and while the Buckeyes have more weapons on offense, Urban Meyer’s bunch hasn’t clicked all year. Throw in the fact the star RB Ezekiel Elliott threw the coaches under the bus and made it clear he has one fit out the door following last weekend’s loss, and a complete implosion appears on tap for Ohio State. Michigan can make an already successful season that much better with a win over its rival, but even with a win, the Buckeyes’ season is going to be a disappointment. That mindset is not lost on players from either side, and it will show on the field.
Prediction: Michigan Wolverines (+1) Cover the Spread
No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels at No. 21 Mississippi State Bulldogs
The Rebels have been one of the toughest teams in the SEC predict. They own impressive wins over Alabama and LSU, but they were shredded by Florida and Arkansas. Perhaps most importantly, they have struggled on the road since beating the Crimson Tide, losing to Memphis and Florida and narrowly beating a mediocre Auburn team. Now, Ole Miss has to go on the road in a rivalry game, and with Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott playing like an All-American, the Bulldogs should come out on top in the Egg Bowl.
Prediction: Mississippi State Bulldogs (+1) Cover the Spread
No. 13 Florida State Seminoles at No. 12 Florida Gators
With the SEC East already wrapped up, it has been easy to overlook just how poorly the Gators have been playing in recent weeks without their starting quarterback. They beat SEC bottom feeder Vanderbilt 9-7, beat a struggling South Carolina team by 10 and snuck by Florida Atlantic 20-14. Granted, the Seminoles have not been the juggernaut they have been the past two years, but RB Dalvin Cook is a game-changing player, and the Seminoles’ defense has been stout all year. Even in road losses to Georgia Tech and top-ranked Clemson, the Seminoles didn’t allow more than 23 points. Florida State should bottle up a struggling Florida offense while Cook and company should put enough points on the board to pick up the win.
Prediction: Florida State Seminoles (-3) Cover the Spread
No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at No. 9 Stanford Cardinal
Both teams are still in the hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and the Fighting Irish in particular could make a major statement with a road win. Stanford has become a much better offensive team this season thanks in large part to a loaded running back corps led by Christian McCaffrey, but the Cardinal are still basically a power running team. Notre Dame has one of the better defenses in the country, allowing just 21.0 points per game, and they can play physical football in the trenches as well as any team around. Meanwhile, Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer’s dual-threat ability could pose an issue for Stanford’s defense. The Cardinal struggled against Oregon in a 38-36 loss, and the Fighting Irish should be able to put some points on the board and make a run at the upset.
Prediction: Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+3.5) Cover the Spread
No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners at No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Both teams have one loss, and while the pressure will be on the Sooners as the go on the road in a rivalry with a chance to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff, it is the Oklahoma State defense that should be sweating this matchup. The Cowboys allowed 663 yards offense to TCU, and they allowed 699 yards of offense to a Baylor team that had to use its third-string quarterback in the second half. Oklahoma’s offense is powerful in its own right, and the Sooners’ defense is easily the best in the Big 12. Rivalry games can be unpredictable, but Bob Stoops’ bunch should take care of business in the Bedlam game.
Prediction: Oklahoma Sooners (-6.5) Cover the Spread
