2015 College Football Picks & Predictions – Week 12 Free College Football Picks & Odds
No. 15 LSU Tigers at No. 22 Ole Miss Rebels
The stars are aligning for Ole Miss to take down the Tigers. For one, the Rebels are at home and should be well rested coming off a bye. Meanwhile, LSU is coming off two championship-dooming losses, and the Tigers’ confidence has to be as low as it has been all season. The Rebels also have the more balanced offense thanks to QB Chad Kelly, and perhaps most importantly, the Rebels have allowed just five rushing touchdowns and have a run defense ranked in the top 25 that is capable of slowing LSU’s only reliable offensive weapon, RB Leonard Fournette.
Prediction: Ole Miss Rebels (-4.5) Cover the Spread
No. 24 USC Trojans at No. 23 Oregon Ducks
Although both USC and Oregon are having disappointing seasons by their standards, this game is still a big one because both teams are very much alive in the Pac-12 race. Both teams are trending up, as well, with the Trojans winning four straight since a loss to Notre Dame and the Ducks doing the same now that QB Vernon Adams is back on center. Oregon will have home-field advantage on its side, but the Trojans are by far the more balanced team with a defense that is allowing more than two touchdowns less per game. USC also has a quarterback in Cody Kessler that is capable of exploiting the suspect Ducks’ defense. Look for the Trojans to come out on top in a high-scoring affair.
Prediction: USC Trojans (+4.5) Cover the Spread
No. 20 Northwestern Wildcats at No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers
While these teams have identical records, the matchup dramatically favors the Badgers. Wisconsin has been much better at home, and Northwestern has struggled on the road. In fact, the Wildcats are actually allowing more yards per game than they produce during conference play, and they are averaging just 257 yards of offensive on the road. The Badgers are also expected to get RB Corey Clement back this weekend, and they should be the fresher team in general coming off a bye week. Wisconsin should win comfortably at home.
Prediction: Wisconsin Badgers (-10.5) Cover the Spread
No. 9 Michigan State Spartans at No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes
A year ago, the Buckeyes went into East Lansing and dismantled the Spartans to start a run that eventually ended with a national title. This time around, it is Michigan State going on the road and in desperate need of a win, and they have a very good chance of doing just that. Let’s face it. Ohio State has not looked like the offensive juggernaut it was last season, and even with QB J.T. Barrett back under center last weekend, they struggled to put away Illinois. Granted, the Spartans have underachieved thus far, as well, but having the chance to play spoiler while the Buckeyes are the team with everything to lose will take the pressure off the Spartans and allow them to play fast and loose. Plus, an inconsistent Michigan State team will still be the best competition Ohio State has faced to date, and even if the Spartans don’t spring the outright upset, they should easily cover the sizeable spread.
Prediction: Michigan State Spartans (+13) Cover the Spread
No. 10 Baylor Bears at No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Big 12 powers have been beating each other up in recent weeks, and the trend could continue as the Bears try to knock off the undefeated Cowboys. Baylor was undefeated prior to last week’s loss to Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State is now the last unblemished team in the conference. Give the Cowboys credit for reaching 10-0, but they have squeaked by mediocre opponents like Texas, Kansas State, Iowa State and West Virginia by a combined 15 points, and they allowed 53 points to Texas Tech. Baylor’s offense will be the best Oklahoma State has seen, and after their loss last weekend, the Bears have no pressure on them heading into this matchup. The Cowboys have been finding ways to survive and advance, but their luck will run out Saturday.
Prediction: Baylor Bears (+1) Cover the Spread
No. 18 TCU Horned Frogs at No. 7 Oklahoma Sooners
The line on this game is still not out as the oddsmakers wait for word on the status of TCU QB Trevone Boykin. Without Boykin, the Horned Frogs have zero chance of making this game competitive as evidenced by their near loss to an atrocious Kansas team last weekend. Even with Boykin, TCU faces a very tough task. Boykin’s top target, Josh Doctson, is for sure out, and the Sooners are probably the only team in the Big 12 with a legitimately tough defense. Oklahoma also has one of the more balanced offenses in the county thanks to QB Baker Mayfield and RB Samaje Perine, and the Sooners should have no trouble putting up points on a TCU defense that has allowed 37 or more points three times. With or without Boykin, TCU isn’t going to beat Oklahoma on the road.
Prediction: Oklahoma Sooners Win the Game by more than 17
