2015 College Football Picks: Heisman Rankings Stock Report – Week 5
Stock Up
He just continues to run around, over and through every defender, and LSU RB Leonard Fournette has established himself as one of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy. In three games, he has amassed 631 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Fournette has scored multiple touchdowns in every game and has topped 150 yards in all three games. Throw in the fact that LSU really doesn’t have a passing game, and it makes his numbers even more valuable and impressive.
It took a lucky bounce at the end of the game, but TCU wouldn’t have even been in position for their miracle win over Texas Tech if not for a huge performance from QB Trevone Boykin. He threw for 485 yards and four scores and added 42 yards on the ground, and he currently ranks third in the country in both passing yards and passing touchdowns. The dual-threat QB is going to put up monster numbers in the offensive-minded Big 12.
After piling up 131 rushing yards and two scores on just 15 carries, Georgia RB Nick Chubb just continues to build his Heisman resume. He has 599 yards and six touchdowns in four games, and he is averaging 8.4 yards per carry. He has run for at least 120 yards in every game, and he the biggest reason the Bulldogs are sitting at 4-0 on the year.
He bounced back from a loss to Stanford by throwing for 375 yards and five touchdowns in a road win over Arizona State, and USC QB Cody Kessler is now tied for the mot touchdown passes thrown this season. He has thrown at least three touchdowns in every game, and he is completely an impressive 73 percent of his passes.
Stock Down
Although they didn’t really need him to do much, Alabama RB Derrick Henry still had a disappointing performance against Louisiana Monroe, finishing with 52 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Of course, he can still make a strong case for the Heisman with big performances in crucial games, but on a weekend when several of the top backs had huge games, Henry didn’t do himself any favors.
Despite being named the starter against Western Michigan, Ohio State QB Cardale Jones was unable to put up big numbers. He was inefficient and missed several open receivers, and the Buckeyes just aren’t clicking on offense like they were at the end of last season. Jones is going to have to be outstanding in conference play to make a run at the Heisman.
He finished with a respectable 77 yards on 14 carries, but Oregon RB Royce Freeman can kiss his Heisman chances goodbye after the Ducks were slaughtered on their home field by Utah. Freeman should still put up big numbers, but they simply won’t mean as much with Oregon already eliminated from contention as far as the College Football Playoff is concerned.
