2013 College Football Predictions: Top 5 Quarterbacks – Johnny Football the Best

NCAA-College-Football-Picks-Odds-and-Predictions2013 College Football Predictions: Top 5 Quarterbacks – Johnny Football Tops the List: Plain and simple, quarterback is the most-important position in football. A great quarterback can make a mediocre team a great one, and a great team at least needs stable quarterback play in order to win a championship. Heck, ask Les Miles what it’s like to have a powerful running game and a loaded defense without a guy under center that can keep defenses honest. There is a reason that quarterbacks win the Heisman Trophy almost every year, and there is a reason that QBs often end up going No. 1 in the NFL Draft. With that in mind here is a closer look at the top quarterbacks in college football for the upcoming 2013 season.

1.      Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M Aggies

He could certainly use a PR department to handle his Twitter account, but on the field, Manziel is nothing short of incredible. He shredded the SEC through the air and on the ground last year en route to becoming the first freshman to win the Heisman, and his ability to make something big out of seemingly nothing on a regular basis sets him apart from most QBs in the country. Expect Manziel to be a human highlight reel and a one-man wrecking crew on offense once again this season.

2.      Braxton Miller, Ohio State Buckeyes

Miller blossomed in his first year at the helm of Urban Meyer’s offense, accounting for more than 3,300 yards and 28 total scores and leading the Buckeyes to an undefeated season with his dual-threat capability. His passing skills should only improve this season, and big plays with his legs outside the pocket are a given. Miller has also shown a knack for coming up with clutch plays in big spots, and with more weapons around him and year of experience in Meyer’s system under his belt, the sky is the limit for Miller this season.

3.      Tajh Boyd, Clemson Tigers

In his two years as starter for the Tigers, Boyd’s average season includes 3,800 passing yards 34 passing touchdowns and 7.5 rushing scores. Granted, his interception totals have been a bit high, but he has transformed the Clemson offense into a juggernaut the past couple of years. Boyd has the athleticism to extend plays and make plays outside of the pocket, and he has the arm to stretch the field and burn defenses that try to creep up and take away his scrambling skills. In fact, Boyd is a polished enough passer to pick apart defenses with his arm alone.

4.      A.J. McCarron, Alabama Crimson Tide

With two national titles under his belt, McCarron certainly knows how to win big games. However, Alabama’s punishing ground game and stifling defense probably keeps him from getting the credit he deserves. After all, he threw for 30 touchdowns and just three picks last year while leading college football in passing efficiency. Yes, he does benefit from having a great team around him, but McCarron is also a smart, accurate passer that puts the ball where it needs to be when it needs to be there.

5.      Aaron Murray, Georgia Bulldogs

With a big arm and big body, Murray is a throwback to the typical pocket passers of old. He has also been one of the most-productive players at the QB position in SEC history, and he enters this season with more than 10,000 passing yards to go along with 95 touchdowns. Murray is going to own a lot of records in the toughest conference in the country when all is said and done, and the only thing missing from his resume is a couple of more big wins. All the physical tools are there, he just needs to show the ability to make the big plays on the big stage more consistently.
