2021 March Madness Bracket Picks – South Region Bracketology and Sleeper to Watch

2021 March Madness Bracket Picks – South Region Bracketology and Sleeper to Watch

The South Region of the 2021 NCAA Tournament Bracket looks to be very deep and loaded with potential upsets. Baylor is the clear favorite but they don’t have a cake walk. Check out our official March Madness picks page for our picks in every game all the way thru the National Championship on April 5th.

South Region Top Seeds

#1 Baylor Bears – The Bears are absolutely loaded this year and are one of just a few teams we can actually see cutting down the nets. Baylor went 22-2 overall this season but are coming in off a 83-74 loss to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals. That’s a good thing. It gets them back refocused and knowing that teams aren’t just going to roll over for them and be scared. Baylor will be a very tough out in this field. They are looking to reach their first Final Four since 1950.

#2 Ohio State Buckeyes – The Buckeyes don’t exactly wow you with the eye test and can be outclassed at times against the top tier teams. However, they are well coached and have a big time gamer in guard Duane Washington Jr who can fill it up from downtown and get in the zone. They are a team who can bow out early or go on a deep run. Tough team to nail down.

#3 Arkansas Razorbacks – The Razorbacks had an outstanding season going 22-6 overall. They have an explosive offense that’s capable of keeping them in any game and beating anyone. Not a great team but they are well coached under Eric Musselman and played well in a tough SEC this season. Their first round game versus high scoring Colgate should be one of the top scoring games in the tournament this year.

#4 Purdue Boilermakers – Purdue is a solid team and well coached. However, a #4 seed? Seriously? No way. They finished 18-9 overall this season and simply don’t pass the eye test when you watch them. Not that athletic, don’t do anything great, just a solid team that really isn’t a threat to go on a deep run in the South Region in our eyes.

South Region Sleeper Special

#11 Utah State Aggies – Utah State finished 22-8 overall this season including two wins over a very good San Diego State team. The main reason we consider the Aggies a dangerous sleeper in the South is their defense. They play stout defense and that will keep them in any game especially against anyone they can possibly play the first two rounds. Of course, they do have to upset #6 seed Texas Tech to advance but they have a great shot. If they do, they can also upset Arkansas by slowing their offense down.
