Kansas is in great position to get a #1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament as they are currently the #2 rated team in today’s RPI index. Kansas is an impressive 9-2 against RPI Top 50 teams and 16-3 overall against RPI Top 100 teams. Kansas has proven itself against the best of the best this season and owns impressive non-conference wins against college basketball blue bloods Duke and Kentucky. It’s hard to imagine Kansas not being a #1 seed no matter what happens this week at the Big 12 Tournament but they can stake claim to the #1 overall seed in the entire field of 68 if they can win the Big 12 Tournament this week. Kansas won last year’s Big 12 Tournament over West Virginia and we could be looking at a repeat of that this year.
West Virginia Mountaineers(24-7 overall, 12-6 in Big 12) – Head coach Bob Huggins led the Mountaineers to 26 wins last season and has a team talented enough and determined enough to beat that number this season with 24 wins already in the bank. West Virginia is the real deal and own impressive wins over Virginia, Kansas, Baylor and Iowa State(twice) to prove it. West Virginia came close to winning the school’s first Big 12 Tournament title last season and should put themselves back in position to win it this week as we like the way the Big 12 Tournament bracket has shaped up for them. West Virginia will most likely get Baylor in the Big 12 semifinals in a rubber match as both teams split the regular season series. However, our money is down on West Virginia if they do meet a 3rd time as they are the better team and should impose their will on the Bears.
2017 Big 12 Tournament Prediction: West Virginia to win We look for a rematch of last season’s Big 12 Tournament Championship Game but this time we look for West Virginia to break through and get the job done against the Jayhawks. These two teams split the regular season series but West Virginia had a real chance to go 2-0 and were the better team on the court overall in our opinion. West Virginia matches up with Kansas very well and they will not be intimidated if they hook up again for the Big 12 Tournament title. Our money is on West Virginia to get some revenge for last year’s defeat.
