Dayton Flyers(24-6 overall, 15-3 in Atlantic 10) – The Dayton Flyers fans better appreciate head coach Archie Miller because this guy can flat out coach with the best of them and it’s only a matter of time before one of the traditional college basketball blue bloods come knocking on his door with a fat contract to have him leave Dayton. Miller led Dayton to another sensational regular season with a 24-6 overall record and won the Atlantic 10 regular season title with a 14-4 record in league play. Dayton is no joke and is rated 21st in today’s RPI Index and own a 4-2 record against RPI Top 50 teams. Dayton hasn’t won the Atlantic 10 Tournament since 2003 but this year’s team looks like it has all the pieces necessary to win it again this week.
VCU Rams(24-7, 14-4 in Atlantic 10) – Head coach Will Wade has done a magnificent job taking over as Rams coach as he has backed up last season’s impressive 25-11 campaign with an even better 24-7 regular season this year. VCU is definitely already in the 2017 NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid regardless of what happens in this week’s A-10 Tournament but can improve their seed to a possible #4 seed if they can win the A-10 Tournament. VCU has a RPI of 23 and winning the A-10 Tournament should get them no lower than a 5 seed. VCU has reached the A-10 Tournament Championship Game in the last four seasons but have only won the title one time in 2015.
2017 Atlantic 10 Tournament Prediction: Dayton to win We look for an A-10 Tournament Championship Game between #1 seed Dayton and #2 seed VCU. These two teams split the regular season series with both teams winning on their home court so this will be the rubber match on a neutral court. Both regular season games were close with the final margins being 5 and 7 points so we expect another dog fight in the 3rd matchup. However, we feel Dayton is the better overall team and we think Miller is a great coach so our money is on the Flyers.
