Purdue Boilermakers(25-6 overall, 14-4 in Big Ten) – The Purdue Boilermakers won the Big Ten regular season championship by two games this season and have the talent to win the school’s 2nd Big Ten Tournament Championship and 2nd for head coach Matt Painter. The Boilermakers enter the Big Ten Tournament rated as the 16th team in the nation in the latest RPI Index and can get as high as a 2nd seed in the NCAA Tournament if they can win the title his week. Purdue has 15 total wins over RPI Top 100 teams and have five players averaging double figures points per game to give themselves one of the most well balanced teams in the nation. Purdue last won the Big Ten Tournament in 2009 and will be looking to make up for last season’s loss in the Big Ten Tournament final against Michigan State.
Maryland Terrapins(24-7, 12-6 in Big Ten) – Head coach Mark Turgeon continues to be one of the most underrated head coaches in the nation as he did another great job this season on the sidelines for the Terrapins. Maryland had a fantastic regular season winning 24 games and going 12-6 in the Big Ten with high quality wins over Oklahoma State, Michigan State, Michigan and Minnesota along the way. Maryland has a RPI of 25 and enter the Big Ten Tournament as the 3rd seed and will likely face a struggling Wisconsin team in the semifinals if they take care of business in the quarterfinals like they should. Maryland lost at Wisconsin 71-60 in February but we like them in a rematch and feel they have the talent to make a run to the title game this week in Washington D.C.
2017 ACC Tournament Prediction: Maryland to win Maryland has the advantage of playing the Big Ten Tournament in their backyard and you can bet that the arena will be loaded with Terrapins fans if they can reach the semifinals and championship game. Maryland lost to Purdue 73-72 at home on February 4th but we like them in a rematch if they both get to the title game this week.
