North Carolina is currently the 4th ranked team in the latest RPI Index and will no doubt be a #1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament if they end up reaching the 2017 ACC Tournament title game in our opinion. The Tar Heels are an impressive 10-4 against RPI Top 50 teams and have four players averaging double figures points per game led by junior forward Justin Jackson(18.3 ppg, 4.7 reb, 2.6 ast). North Carolina has won 18 ACC Tournament Championships all-time including last season when they beat Virginia in the title game. They trail Duke by one to tie for the most ACC Tournament Titles in ACC history.
Louisville Cardinals(24-7 overall, 12-6 in ACC) – The Louisville Cardinals enter the 2017 ACC Tournament as the 3rd ranked team in the RPI Index and looking to bolster it’s case for a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament by winning it’s first ACC Tournament since joining the league in 2014. Head coach Rick Pitino is one of the best in the business and few are better at getting their team ready to perform in March than him. Louisville is on the same side of the bracket as North Carolina and would face the Tar Heels in the semifinals if they both win their quarterfinal matchup and that is a game Pitino wants badly after his team was embarrassed 74-63 in Chapel Hill last month. That was a game that saw Pitino get into a fiery exchange with a fan in the stands who apparently said some words to Pitino that got the coach looking to confront him heading into the locker room at halftime.
2017 ACC Tournament Prediction: Louisville to win We like Louisville to break through and win their first ACC Tournament Championship this week in Brooklyn as we like the way the bracket falls for them and see them being extra motivated to take out North Carolina in the semifinals to avenge last month’s loss. Louisville is always a battle tested and extremely tough out in conference tournament and NCAA Tournament action as Pitino is a great big game coach and this year will be no different. Make no mistake, if Louisville beats Duke in the quarters and UNC in the semis they simply ain’t losing the title game no matter who is left. This is Louisville’s year to shine in the ACC Tournament.
