2017 March Madness Picks – SEC Tournament Odds, Predictions & Free Picks
2017 SEC Tournament Favorites
Kentucky Wildcats(26-5 overall, 16-2 in SEC) – This year’s Kentucky Wildcats squad isn’t the most hyped or talented team that head coach John Calipari has had since he took over as UK’s coach but it’s still a formidable squad that can make noise this March. Kentucky won the SEC regular season title by 2 games over Florida and come into the SEC Tournament as the 6th rated team in the latest RPI Index. Kentucky went just 2-4 against RPI Top 25 teams with wins over North Carolina and Florida but losses to UCLA, Louisville, Kansas and Florida. Kentucky is led by freshman guard Malik Monk who pumps in 21.1 points per game on 46.3 percent from the field and an impressive 40.9 percent from three point range. Kentucky has four players averaging double figures but their weakness is free throw shooting(176th nationally) and three point scoring(167th nationally). Kentucky is a talented team but have to play very well to advance this March because they lack the overall talent of teams they’ve had recently.
Florida Gators(24-7 overall, 14-4 in SEC) – The Florida Gators are back in business after missing the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons and head coach Mike White has gotten the naysayers off his back after a mediocre 21-15 debut last season. The Gators went an impressive 14-4 in the SEC and enter the SEC Tournament with a RPI rating of 5 nationally and an outside chance at earning as high as a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament if it can win the SEC Tournament this week in Nashville. Florida is looking to win it’s first SEC Tournament title since 2014 and 5th all-time and has the team to do it. Florida owns 8 wins over RPI Top 50 teams including a 88-66 thumping over Kentucky. Florida is a team that has no stars and only three players averaging in double figures. However, they have very good depth and a lot of interchangeable parts.
2017 SEC Tournament Prediction: Kentucky to win This has been a down year for SEC Men’s Basketball and the jury is out on how they will fare as a conference this 2017 March Madness. Kentucky and Florida are certainly the cream of crop and can make big runs in the NCAA Tournament but both will have to bring their “A” game each and every game if they want to advance. We see these two teams navigating their way to the SEC Tournament Championship Game against some weak competition and we think Kentucky ultimately cuts down the nets with their 30th SEC Tournament Title. Kentucky owns this conference and tournament and it’s not a good gamble betting against them. We won’t.
