AAC Conference
LOCKS: Cincinnati, UConn, Temple
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Houston, Tulsa
NOTES: SMU is the best team in this league but is ineligible for the 2016 NCAA Tournament due to a NCAA penalty. This is a very solid league, however, and is in good shape to get 3 teams in with UConn, Temple and Cincinnati being LOCKS. However, Tulsa is now OUT after losing in embrassing fashion to Memphis in the AAC quarterfinals and Houston has no shot with a poor RPI of 85.

ACC Conference
LOCKS: Miami-Fl, North Carolina, Virginia, Duke, Notre Dame
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Pittsburgh, Syracuse
NOTES: The ACC would have 6 teams in the field if Louisville was eligible but will have to settle for a strong 5 teams in the field of 68 this year. Pittsburgh and Syracuse don’t deserve to get IN in our opinion as Pittsburgh went just 9-9 in ACC play and is just 2-7 against RPI Top 50 teams while Syracuse lost 5 of their last 6 games.

ATLANTIC 10 Conference
LOCKS: VCU, St Joe’s, Dayton
“Bubble Teams” IN: St Bonaventure
“Bubble Teams” OUT: George Washington
NOTES: The A-10 is arguably the most underrated and consistently stronger than given credit for conferences in College Basketball annually. This year is no different as they have 5 teams atop the conference that are all legit NCAA Tournament type teams. The A-10 should get 4 bids and it would be a shame if they didn’t as VCU, St Joe’s, Dayton and St Bonaventure have strong RPI’s in the 20’s and 30’s and solid resumes.

BIG EAST Conference
LOCKS: Villanova, Xavier, Seton Hall
“Bubble Teams” IN: Providence
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Butler
NOTES: Villanova and Xavier have strong cases for #1 and #2 seeds in the field of 68 and Seton Hall and Providence should also hear their names called on selection sunday. Butler is a big-time “bubble” team and as of right now is among the last four OUT our field. Butler went 0-3 against Providence this season and it’s hard to figure out a way that the BIG EAST gets more than 4 teams IN as their is a big dropoff in the conference after the first 5 teams. Providence gets the edge due to their 3-0 record versus Butler.

BIG 10 Conference
LOCKS: Indiana, Michigan St, Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Maryland
“Bubble Teams” IN: Michigan
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Ohio St
NOTES: The Big 10 has been outstanding this season and is arguably the strongest league in the nation. They should get 6 teams called on selection sunday with Michigan trying to sneak in despite a mediocre RPI of 55 due to their 3 wins over Top 25 RPI teams plus their “name”. Look for Michigan to be one of the last teams IN as an at-large after their run to the Big 10 Tournament semis.

BIG 12 Conference
LOCKS: Kansas, Iowa St, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: NONE
NOTES: The Big 12 has been super strong this season and deserves 7 bids. Kansas and Oklahoma have strong cases for #1 seeds and the rest are more than qualified to get in the field and earn good seeds. The Big 12 only has 10 teams so some would argue 7 teams is too many but they all deserve it. Bottom line.

Conference USA Conference
LOCKS: NONE
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: NONE
NOTES: The CUSA will be a one team league as the winner of the CUSA Conference Tournament will be the only entry in the field of 68 with the automatic bid.

Horizon League Conference
LOCKS: NONE
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Valparaiso
NOTES: This is a one bid league again this year. Only the Horizon League Tournament winner will get their name in the field of 68.

IVY League Conference
LOCKS: NONE
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: NONE
NOTES: The IVY league is a one-bid league like almost always again this year. Nothing to see here folks, let’s move along…

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
LOCKS: Iona(Tourney Champ)
“Bubble Teams” IN: Monmouth
“Bubble Teams” OUT: NONE
NOTES: Monmouth went 27-7, WON the regular season MAAC Title and has a solid RPI of 57 for a mid-major. However, they have two big-time wins over Notre Dame and USC in non-conference action and that will get them IN this field.

Missouri Valley Conference
LOCKS: No Iowa(Tourney Champ)
“Bubble Teams” IN: Wichita St
“Bubble Teams” OUT: NONE
NOTES: Wichita State has a RPI of 49 and has been a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament of late but they don’t have a great resume to earn an at-large bid and is squarely on the “Bubble”. They are just 1-4 against RPI Top 50 teams but a regular season MVC Title and a marquee win over Utah in non-conference should just sneak them IN.

Mountain West Conference
LOCKS: Fresno St(Tourney Champ)
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: San Diego St
NOTES: This has been a down year for the Mountain West and only San Diego State has an outside chance of earning an at-large bid if they don’t win the Mountain West Tournament. San Diego State is clearly the best team in this league but they didn’t take care of business and win the MWC Tournament. Right now, they are one of the first four OUT.

Pac 12 Conference
LOCKS: Arizona, Utah, Oregon, California, Colorado, USC, Oregon State
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Stanford
NOTES: The PAC 12 is always one of the strongest and most underrated leagues in the nation at the same time. This year is no different. The PAC 12 should get 7 teams in the field and Oregon State will get IN despite just 17 wins so far as they have an incredible 9 WINS over RPI Top 100 teams including 3 versus Top 25, 3 versus 26-50 and 3 versus 51-100.

Southeastern Conference(SEC)
LOCKS: Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M
“Bubble Teams” IN: NONE
“Bubble Teams” OUT: Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss
NOTES: The SEC should get 4 teams in as Vanderbilt should get in despite a mediocre RPI of 47 and just a 2-8 record versus RPI Top 50 teams. However, it’s hard to see the SEC getting a 5th team as Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss all have terrible RPI’s and mediocre resumes at best.

West Coast Conference
LOCKS: Gonzaga(Tourney Champ)
“Bubble Teams” IN: St Mary’s
“Bubble Teams” OUT: BYU
NOTES: St Mary’s has a solid RPI of 41 and won 2 out of 3 matchups against Gonzaga. They are 6-1 versus RPI 51-100 teams and that should sneak them in. St Mary’s should be one of the last four IN as an at-large.

Schools Banned from Participating: Alcorn State (SWAC), Florida A&M (MEAC), Stetson (Atlantic Sun) Central Arkansas (Southland), SMU (AAC), Southern Miss (C-USA), Pacific (WCC), Cal-State Northridge (Big West), Missouri (SEC), Louisville (ACC)

LAST FOUR BUBBLE TEAMS IN THE FIELD: Vanderbilt, St Mary’s, Michigan, Monmouth
LAST FOUR BUBBLE TEAMS OUT OF THE FIELD: San Diego St, Butler, Pittsburgh, Syracuse

BREAKDOWN BY LEAGUE:
7: PAC 12, BIG 12, BIG 10
6:
5: ACC
4: SEC, A-10, BIG EAST
3: AAC
2: MVC, West Coast, Metro Atlantic
1: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, CUSA, Horizon, Ivy, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern Athletic, Mountain West, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern Athletic, Summit, Sun Belt, Western Athletic, (21)
