2015 NIT Tournament Semifinals Odds, Free Picks & Predictions – Analysis and Preview
NIT Semifinal #1: Temple(-2, o/u 139) versus Miami-Fl at 7PM EST on ESPN
The Temple Owls enter this NIT semifinal with an overall record of 26-10 out of the AAC Conference and looking to continue to show the NCAA selection committee that they made a big time mistake in leaving them out of the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Fran Dunphy has his team playing outstanding basketball so far in the NIT Tournament as they have rolled to New York City and the NIT Semifinals with NIT wins over Bucknell 73-67, George Washington 90-77 and Louisiana Tech 77-59. The Owls won all three games at home and will be playing away from home for the first time since they lost to SMU 69-56 in the AAC Tournament.
The Miami-Fl Hurricanes enter this NIT Tournament matchup also looking to show the NCAA selection committee that they too should have been in the NCAA Tournament as they come into this game tonight with an overall record of 24-12 and playing lights out. The Hurricanes opened the NIT Tournament with two home wins over NC Central 75-71 and Alabama 73-66 and then went on the road in the NIT quarterfinals to knock out Richmond 63-61. Head coach Jim Larrañaga has his team playing arguably it’s best and most consistent basketball of the season as they come into tonight’s game winners in 6 of their last 7 games.
We look for this game to be a battle as both teams are playing great and are very well coached. The Hurricanes played in a much tougher conference in the ACC than Temple did in the AAC, but Temple did test themselves with a strong non-conference schedule that included games against Duke(74-54 loss), Villanova(85-62 loss) and Kansas(77-52 win). Talent and quality of play will win this game tonight as neither team will be intimidated by the other and there is no decided edge to base picks on tonight from the skill and coaching department. Both teams will be prepared and have the talent to get the job done.
This game looks to be very close on paper with Miami-Fl coming in averaging 68.6 points per game on offense and allowing 63.4 on defense, while Temple puts up 66.1 points per game on offense and 61.2 points on defense. Neither team shoots the ball that well at all as Miami-Fl shoots the rock at 43.1 percent from the floor and Temple comes in shooting at just a 39 percent clip. Both teams are okay at the free throw line as the Hurricanes shoot 74.7 from the charity stripe and the Owls shoot 69.7 percent. One thing to keep an eye on is both teams do put up some good 3 point numbers as Miami-Fl pours in 7.8 threes per game and Temple scores 6.5 threes a game.
So who do we like? Well, we are not going to give away our spread pick on this game as our NSAwins.com handicapping expert Sonny LaFouchi(aka The Legend) has THREE 25*-20* Guaranteed Winning College Basketball Picks on both NIT Semifinals matchups tonight including a 20* play on the spread of the Temple vs Miami-Fl game. However, we will give you guys a free 10* pick on this game’s total as The Legend likes this game to go OVER the total of 139 points. Temple has scored 73 or more points in 5 of their last 6 games including all three of their NIT games so far as they scored 73, 90 and 77 respectively. Miami-Fl opened the NIT with two strong offensive outings in their first two games as they scored 75 and 73 points before putting up just 63 in a game against a defensive minded club in Richmond.
Both teams will play loose tonight as this is the NIT and not the NCAA Tournament and both teams will want to put on a show for the New York City crowd. We highly doubt either team is going to want to make this a boring walk up the ball kind of game and both teams should come out gunning and hoisting threes. Both teams can stroke it from down town and we expect this game to go over before the clock even hits two minutes remaining. Good luck.
