2015 Final Four Odds, Predictions and Free Picks – Wisconsin vs Kentucky Final Four Matchup Preview

The Kentucky Wildcats will be looking to make history at this year’s Final Four as they enter undefeated on the season at 38-0 overall and looking to become the first NCAA men’s team since Indiana to finish a season undefeated and win the national title. The Hoosiers accomplished the feat in 1976 for head coach Bobby Knight and the Wildcats will be looking to do it for head coach John Calipari on Indiana soil on Monday night. However, Kentucky must first get past a talented Wisconsin team on Saturday. Kentucky made it to Final Four by coming out of the Midwest Region as the #1 seed and punched their ticket to Indianapolis by hanging on for dear life against a upset minded #3 seeded Notre Dame team in the Elite 8 round. The Wildcats survived a last second three point attempt and beat the Fighting Irish 68-66 in a game that was closer than a lot of people expected.

Kentucky will be playing in the Final Four for the 17th time in it’s glorious history and looking to win the National Championship for the 9th time. The Wildcats were the runner-up last season when they lost the title game to UConn and are looking to win the 2nd National Championship under Calipari who led his team to the National Title in 2012. If Kentucky is to seal the deal and finish the season by cutting down the bets Monday night than they will need leading scorer and team leader Aaron Harrison to help lead the way. The 6-6, 212 pound sophomore guard leads the Cats in scoring at 11.2 points per game to go along with 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists. Those aren’t the most impressive numbers but that’s more of a product that Kentucky is so loaded and doesn’t rely on the same player to carry the scoring load every night.

Head coach Bo Ryan has his Wisconsin Badgers back in the Final Four for the 2nd consecutive season as well and looking revenge against Kentucky for last year’s Final Four loss. The Badgers had a shot to beat Kentucky at the buzzer but a last second shot by Traevon Jackson clanged off the rim and sent Kentucky to the title game. The Badgers enter this year’s rematch with a superb 35-3 overall record and made it to the Final Four by defeating #2 seeded Arizona 85-78 to win the West Region as the #1 seed.

Wisconsin will be playing in it’s 4th Final Four in school history and looking to add it’s second National Championship to go along with the one they won in 1941. The Badgers return a veteran team to the Final Four for the second straight season and this Badgers team is the best team that Bo Ryan has had at Wisconsin since he took over as head coach in 2001. The Badgers are led in scoring by talented 7 foot, 242 pound senior center Frank Kaminsky who scores 18.4 points per game, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists. The Badgers have two more scorers that average double figures on their talented front line as 6-9, 230 pound junior forward Sam Dekker averages 13.1 points per game and 6-8, 235 pound sophomore forward Nigel Hayes chips in 12 points per game.

This matchup is closer on paper than most experts think it will be on the court. Kentucky averages 74.6 points per game and allows 53.9 points defensively while Wisconsin scores 72.8 points per contest and allows 57.8 on defense. Kentucky shoots the ball 46.8 percent from the floor and 72.5 percent from the free throw line and Wisconsin shoots the pill at 48.2 percent from the field and 76.4 percent from the charity stripe. Wisconsin played in a much better league than Kentucky as the Big Ten has two teams in the Final Four and proved itself to be the best overall conference in the nation this season while Kentucky played in a relatively weak SEC Conference. Because of that and the fact that Wisconsin knows it can play Kentucky tough after almost beating them last year in the Final Four, we do like Wisconsin to keep this game close and within striking distance once again at this year’s Final Four. Wisconsin’s front line will not be intimidated at all by Kentucky and can present some problems that Kentucky hasn’t faced this season so far. We are not saying Wisconsin will win the game outright but we do like them getting +6 points and believe they will cover the spread and get us the money. Take Wisconsin +6.
