2012 Patriot League Tournament Odds and Predictions to Win 2012 Patriot League Tournament – 2012 Patriot League Tournament Favorites, Sleepers, Schedule and TV Listings plus Expert Picks: Although the Patriot League didn’t make much noise on the national level this season, the conference did produce one of the better regular season battles. The top four teams in the league were evenly matched most of the year, and depending on the month, any one of the top teams appeared to be the class of the conference. Only the winner of the conference tournament is going to make the NCAA tournament, but based on the regular season, the team that secures the automatic bid is going to have to earn it.
The Favorite – 2012 Patriot League Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
A couple of late losses put the Bucknell Bison (22-8) in jeopardy of giving away the regular season title. However, the team regrouped and hung on, earning the top seed in the Patriot League tournament. Bucknell is powered on the offensive end by center Mike Muscala, who is averaging 16.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Having Muscala inside gives Bucknell the ability to get some easy points in the paint and control the glass on the defensive end. It is a luxury that the Bison have that not every team in the Patriot League does, and it could be the difference in Bucknell winning the tournament.
The Dark Horses – 2012 Patriot League Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
Unlike a lot of teams in the Patriot League, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (23-7) can put points on the scoreboard. In fact, Lehigh has the 28th-best scoring offense in the country. Junior guard C.J. McCollum leads the way, scoring 21.7 points per game and hitting nearly two 3-pointers per game. The Mountain Hawks closed the regular season with five straight wins, including a victory of conference champion Bucknell. With plenty of offensive firepower and momentum on their side, the Mountain Hawks could roll their way into the NCAA tournament by winning the Patriot League tournament.
The American University Eagles (19-10) don’t overwhelm teams with their offense, but they do play above average defense and have solid depth. On the downside, all four conference losses have come to the other top teams in the Patriot League. The Eagles will need Charles Hinkle to have a big tournament. He is the team’s leading scorer, averaging more than 18 points a game. For a team that struggles to find consistent offense, one bad game from Hinkle would likely spell the end to the Eagles’ season.
Sleeper Special – 2012 Patriot League Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
Offensively, the Holy Cross Crusaders (15-13) were downright ugly at times this season. That being said, they offset their offensive inefficiencies with a solid defense. More importantly, the Crusaders caught fire late in the year, winning their final six regular season games. During the stretch, Holy Cross knocked off Bucknell and American – two of the top three teams in the Patriot League. Guard Devin Brown is the team’s go-to option on offense, but with eight players seeing significant minutes, the Crusaders’ strength is wearing down teams with their defense. If Holy Cross can carry the momentum from the end of the regular season into the tournament, they could stun the top seeds and snag the automatic bid.
