Although a mini slump during conference play cost the Creighton Blue Jays (25-5) a shot at the Missouri Valley regular season title, this is a dangerous team. Creighton owns a victory over Wichita State, along with three Big Ten teams and San Diego State. The Blue Jays are led by star sophomore Doug McDermott, who is averaging 23.1 points per game and connecting on more than 60 percent of his shot attempts. As a team, Creighton leads the country in field goal percentage and ranks eighth in points per game. The Blue Jays don’t have to win the conference tournament to make the NCAA tournament, but the Blue Jays definitely have enough firepower to get the job done.
The Northern Iowa Panthers (19-13) don’t have the offensive weapons of the Creighton or Wichita State, but despite having just a single player averaging double figures, the Panthers played the two best teams in the Missouri Valley Conference tough this year. Northern Iowa makes up for its offensive ineptitude with its tough defense, which keeps them in almost every game. Although the Panthers went just 1-3 against the Blue Jays and Shockers, they lost two of the games by just three points and held their opponents well below their scoring average in three of the meetings. Northern Iowa’s defensive-oriented approach will give them a fighting chance throughout the conference tournament.

They have been missing a signature win all season, but the Evansville Aces (15-14) have shown flashes of potential on several occasions. Ryan is a legitimate star on the offensive end, and he can score from the paint and the perimeter. More importantly, the Aces lost by just a single point to both Creighton and Wichita State. In other words, Evansville wasn’t outclassed by the conference’s top teams. If a few breaks fall their way, the Aces could make a surprise run.
