2011 Big East Tournament Championship Free Picks, Odds and Predictions – March Madness Betting 3/12/11: The 2011 Big East Championship Game takes place tonight at 9 PM EST(on ESPN) from Madison Square Garden in New York City when Jim Calhoun’s #21 ranked Connecticut Huskies battle Rick Pitino’s #14 ranked Louisville Cardinals in what should be an absolute classic in front of a nationwide audience.
Uconn has made it to tonight’s Big East Tournament Final by winning four games over the last four days as the #9 seed in this year’s Big East Tournament field, including a thrilling 76-71 win in overtime over their archrival Syracuse in the Big East Semifinals last night. Uconn sensational guard Kemba Walker once again led the way and carried the Huskies by pouring in a game-high 33 points and pulling down 12 rebounds to lift his team into tonight’s Championship Game. The Bronx native has been the most dominant player in the tournament this week as he’s averaged 27.8 ppg and made the play of the tournament when he sank a game-winner at the buzzer from just inside the three-point line to close out #1 seed Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals.
Louisville enters tonight’s Big East Tournament Championship also coming off of a thrilling overtime win as it upset #2 seed Notre Dame by storming back from a 14 point 2nd half deficit to beat the Fighting Irish 83-77 in the extra session last night in New York City. The Cardinals got revenge for an overtime loss to Notre Dame in South Bend in February and were led by senior guard Preston Knowles who pumped in 20 points. His backcourt mate Peyton Siva added 15 points and 7 assists before fouling out. “Coach Pitino told us to stay aggressive, play smart and play the way we play,” said Silva. “He had faith in us and when I fouled out I had to have faith in my teammates and our bench.”
Uconn will be looking to win it’s record 7th Big East Tournament Championship which would tie them with Georgetown for the all-time lead. If they are to do that they must find a way to solve Louisville for the 1st time in three ties this season as the Cardinals went 2-0 against Uconn in the two regular season meetings between the two Big East powers. Louisville survived in double-overtime to defeat UConn 79-78 on January 29th at Connecticut in the 1st meeting and then dominated the Huskies 71-58 in the rematch in Louisville on February 18th.
