How to Bet On Sports – Betting NFL Player Props

One of the most popular ways to bet on the NFL heading into a new regular season is on the various player props that the online sportsbooks release. Their goal is to try and generate some early NFL action ahead of the actual games. Your goal as a sports bettor is to take full advantage of the value in the odds to cash a few winners on these props at the end of the regular season.

The top three NFL player props on the board this time of the year are for most passing yards, rushing yards and receiving yards in the regular season. The quarterbacks at the top of the list for most passing yards for 2018 include New England’s Tom Brady at +350 betting odds followed by New Orleans’ Drew Brees at +500. Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay is the third-favorite on the board at +650 odds and he could offer the best value of the three.

Sports Bookies Looking for a Great Pay Per Head for Football Season

Rodgers missed more than half of last season due to injury, so the motivation to make up for lost time is going to be high. Green Bay finished 7-9 last season; missing the playoffs for the first time in the last nine seasons. This is also a big motivational factor. The Packers were ranked 25th in the NFL in passing yards with Brett Hundley taking most of the snaps in Rodgers’ absence. Going back over the future Hall of Famer’s career, Rodgers has thrown for 4000 yards or more in six of the 10 seasons he has been at the helm as starter. The real value in his odds to throw for the most yards in the NFL this season could be a Packers’ running game that is still looking for a featured back that can carry the load. Green Bay was 17th in the league in rushing in 2017.

The NFL player prop list for running backs when it comes to most rushing yards this season is led by third-year Dallas Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott at +350 betting odds. Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell is a close second at +400 followed by Kansas City’s Kareem Hunt (+650), who led the NFL in rushing last season as a rookie with 1,327 yards.

Of the three, the player with the best value in my book would be Elliott. He won the NFL rushing title in 2016 as a rookie with 1,631 yards and he comes into this season with a huge chip on his shoulder after sitting out six games last season due to a league suspension. Dallas loves to run the ball behind one of the top offensive lines in the NFL and Elliott should have more than enough opportunity to pile up the yards.

When it comes to the betting odds for most receiving yards in the regular season, Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown is once again at the top of the list as a +250 favorite. He was at the top of the list last season with 1,533 receiving yards after slipping to fifth in 2016. A close second for this prop is Atlanta’s Julio Jones at +300 betting odds. He was second behind Brown last year with 1,444 receiving yards and he remains one of the most consistent performers at the wide receiver position with 1,400 yards or more in each of his last four seasons. His career high was 1,871 yards catching the ball in 2015. With Ben Roethlisberger still throwing the ball to Brown and Matt Ryan chucking it to Jones, you probably cannot go wrong with either of these two players in this prop.

Another name you could add to the list would be Houston’s DeAndre Hopkins at +600 betting odds. Even with quarterback Deshaun Watson out of the lineup for an extended amount of games last season, Hopkins was still fourth on the list with 1,378 receiving yards.
