2018 AFC South Division Predictions and Odds to Win
1. Jacksonville Jaguars(+180 odds to win AFC South at Bovada) – The Jaguars won the AFC South Division title last season finishing 10-6 and are the favorites to win it again this season. The Jaguars came within minutes of reaching the Super Bowl last season as they had the New England Patriots on the ropes in the AFC Championship Game but couldn’t withstand the greatness of Tom Brady before losing the lead and game in the 4th quarter. The Jaguars have one of the best defenses in the NFL and should only be better this season as their top players mature and come in with valuable playoff experience this year. The big question mark for Jacksonville continues to be quarterback Blake Bortles and the jury is out on whether he can get Jacksonville to the Super Bowl and win it.
2. Houston Texans(+180 odds to win AFC South at Bovada) – The Texans finally found their franchise quarterback in Deshaun Watson and he was absolutely ripping up the league during his rookie season last year. However, a fluke season-ending knee injury during a practice knocked Watson out for the season late in the year and essentially killed any hope the Texans had of making a run at the playoffs. Watson returns this season along with superstar defensive end J.J. Watt who was also sidelined for the season last year with an injury. The Texans have the talent to win the AFC South Division but we can’t pick them over Jacksonville due to the concerns over Watson and Watt who have proven to be injury-prone in their careers.
3. Tennessee Titans(+335 odds to win AFC South at Bovada) – The Titans finished 9-7 overall last season and made the playoffs where they beat Kansas City in the Wild Card round before losing to New England in the Divisional Round. You would think that would be more then enough for head coach Mike Mularkey to keep his job but he was fired and Mike Vrabel was hired to be the new head coach. Vrabel is a 3x World Champion from his New England days and he looks to be the right man for the job in our eyes. He inherits a talented roster that should be competitive in the AFC and certainly good enough to make another run at a playoff spot. How far the Titans go will be up to the development of quarterback Marcus Mariota. He’s good but he needs to be closer to great for the Titans to take the next step.
4. Indianapolis Colts(+550 odds to win AFC South at Bovada) – The Colts were made to look like fools in the offseason when they announced New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would be their new head coach but McDaniels pulled the rug out from underneath them and decided to return to New England. The Colts had to scramble for a new choice and decided on Philadelphia offensive coordinator Frank Reich. Reich had a great year calling plays for the Eagles last season but the talent level on Indianapolis is nowhere close to as good as the Eagles and especially the offensive line. It will be another long season for the Colts as they are simply too soft on both sides of the ball and the return of quarterback Andrew Luck will only help mask those flaws so much.
