2017 NFC North Division Predictions and Odds to Win

1. Green Bay Packers(-235 odds to win NFC North at Bovada) – The Green Bay Packers have been one of the most consistent franchises in the NFL this decade and have made the playoffs the last 5 seasons including going 10-6 last season to win the AFC North Division. However, the ultimate prize of winning the Lombardi Trophy has escaped the Packers the past 5 seasons since they last won in 2011. The Packers have the most talented quarterback in the NFL and possibly in the history of the game in Aaron Rodgers and the heat is getting on head coach Mike McCarthy to get the Packers back to the Super Bowl as Rodgers’ prime years are starting to waste away. The Packers weakness has been their terrible defense that has failed them on countless occasions in the playoffs. The Packers finished 22nd in the NFL in total defense last season and tried to fix that by using their first four draft picks in the first four rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft on defensive players including 1st rd pick, cornerback Kevin King out of Washington. If the defense can improve enough than the Packers offense should be plenty enough to get them back to the Super Bowl as Rodgers has a new weapon this year in tight end Martellus Bennett who should give Rodgers the security blanket he has lacked of late.

2. Minnesota Vikings(+355 odds to win NFC North at Bovada) – The Minnesota Vikings had a disappointing 8-8 season last year after going 11-5 the year prior. The Vikings appear to be ready to compete for the NFC North Division title again and make a serious run at a NFC Playoff bid this season. We loved what the Vikings did to replace running back Adrian Peterson as they signed free agent Latavius Murray from Oakland and made what we feel will be one of the best draft picks in the entire 2017 NFL Draft in taking running back Dalvin Cook out of Florida State in the 2nd round. Murray and Cook should give Minnesota a fantastic running game and the offense should be greatly imoroved from last year’s awful 28th ranked unit in the NFL. On the other side of the ball the Vikings had a terrific defense last season with the 3rd best unit in the NFL and should have a top 5 unit again this season. The Viking are stout defensively and should keep the Vikings in almost all of their games. They are that good.

3. Detroit Lions(+700 odds to win NFC North at Bovada) – The Detroit Lions were a surprise 9-7 last season and made the NFC Playoffs after finishing just 7-9 the year prior. However, the Lions finished the season losing their last 3 regular season games to choke the NFC North Division away to Green Bay and lost their NFC Wild Card game at Seattle in embarrassing 26-6 fashion. The 4 game losing streak left a bad taste in the mouths of the players and fans after what looked like such a great season in the works. Detroit should come back this season and once again challenge for a NFC Playoff bid as they have a solid roster but winning the division appears to be far fetched as Green Bay is just a better overall team. Detroit had solid 2017 NFL Draft headlined by 1st round pick, linebacker Jarrad Davis out of Florida who should help a defense that finished just 18th overall last season. Offensively, the Lions were a subpar 21st in the NFL last season and will have to improve upon their 21.6 ppg average if they want to finish over .500. The Lions look to be a anywhere from a 7-9 to 9-7 team this year but a run at another playoff bid is not out of question.

4. Chicago Bears(+3300 odds to win NFC North at Bovada) – Does anyone know what the hell the Chicago Bears front office is doing? They go out in free agency and sign quarterback Mike Glennon to a big deal and then they turn around and trade up in the 2017 NFL Draft to select Mitch Trubisky with the 2nd overall pick in the draft. Why do both? Makes absolutely no sense. But, hey, that’s why the Bears continue to be the joke of the NFC North and have won a grand total of 14 games the last 3 seasons including a pitiful 3-13 season last year. Head coach John Fox has to be on the firing line as the guy is simply a ham and egger as a head coach when he doesn’t have Peyton Manning as his quarterback. He was mediocre in Carolina and he’s mediocre in Chicago. The Bears overall talent is one of the worst rosters in the NFL and we don’t expect them to win more than 4-5 games again this season. Not much else to say about this team to be honest.
