2012 Quaker State 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Quaker State 400 Favorites and Sleepers to Win at Kentucky Speedway: NASCAR betting odds to win the 2012 Quaker State 400 this Saturday, June 30th at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky have been posted at all the major Las Vegas and best online sportsbooks with Jimmie Johnson having been installed as the 5/1 +500 favorite to win the 2012 Quaker State 400.
If bettors thought last Sunday’s trip to a road course was a wild card race, this weekend’s event at Kentucky Speedway is a downright crap shoot. For just the second time in its history, the 1.5-mile track will play host to a Cup Series event. Needless to say drivers and crew chiefs are still going through a learning process. The fact that the track is so new to the schedule makes Saturday night’s race a little more wide open than usual. Just about anyone could be the first to figure out the winning setup at Kentucky.
While many fans were dealing with an epic traffic jam during last year’s inaugural Cup Series event at Kentucky, Kyle Busch was bust delivering a dominant performance. He started on the pole, led a race-high 125 laps and held off a late charge from David Reutimann to seal the win. Brad Keselowski was the only other driver to lead a significant amount of laps, but he ended up seventh when all was said and done. Roush Fenway Racing was the most impressive organization as a whole, placing three drivers in the top eight spots.
The Favorites – 2012 Quaker State 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
He enters the race as the point leader, and Matt Kenseth is no stranger to running well at 1.5-mile tracks. He has scored the second-most points in the last 10 races at tracks shaped similarly to Kentucky, and he finished sixth in last year’s inaugural race at the track. Kenseth’s eight top-10s during the stretch are also the second most of any driver, and he has led the fourth-most laps. As steady as he has been in 2012, he should be a serious contender this weekend.
In the last 10 races at 1.5-mile tracks like Kentucky, no driver has piled up more victories than Tony Stewart. He has gone to Victory Lane four times during the stretch and led more laps than any other driver. In the same 10-race span, no other driver has managed to win even two races. Stewart has finished second in the two races leading up to Kentucky, and he might just get over the hump this weekend.
There aren’t many tracks Jimmie Johnson hasn’t won at, and it might not take him long at add Kentucky to the list. He finished third at the track last year, and he has led the second-most laps of any driver during the last 10 races at 1.5-mile tracks. Johnson has notched a series-high nine top-five finishes in 2012, and he could easily add to that total and then some this weekend.
The Dark Horses – 2012 Quaker State 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Preseason title favorite Carl Edwards hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in 2012, but it is tough to argue with his record at 1.5-mile tracks. Including a fifth-place finish at Kentucky last year, Edwards has finished in the top 10 in 10 straight races at 1.5-mile tracks. He leads all drivers in points scored during the stretch, and he has a series-leading eight top-five finishes, as well. His 5.2 average finish in the 10 races is by far the best in the series. Edwards could get going in a big way this weekend.
Although he struggled at Kentucky last year, Greg Biffle seems primed for a major rebound. After all, he has finished in the top five in all four races at 1.5-mile tracks in 2012, including a win at Texas. Biffle has been one of the best drivers in the series all year, especially at the cookie-cutter ovals. A win at Kentucky is well within his reach.
Kyle Busch rolls into Kentucky mired in a month-long slump. Engine failures and wrecks have plagued him in recent weeks, but bettors have reason to optimistic about his chances this weekend. He dominated the only race at Kentucky, winning the pole, winning the race, and leading the most laps. Busch had the field covered last year, and there is no guarantee the competition has closed the gap.
Sleeper Specials – 2012 Quaker State 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Despite fading to a seventh-place finish at Kentucky last year, Brad Keselowski was the second-best car on the track for most of the night. Only eventual winner Kyle Busch led more laps than Keselowski, and he was the only driver that could challenge Busch for the lead. Keselowski clearly had a setup that worked last season, and he will be looking to finish what he started last season.
In the Nationwide Series, Joey Logano has been absolutely dominant at Kentucky. He carried the momentum to a solid top-15 finish in his Cup Series debut at the track last season. Logano enters the race in the middle of a hot stretch, finishing in the top 10 in three of his last four starts. With momentum on his side at one of his best tracks, he could pull off another upset like he did at Pocono a few weeks ago.
Big Name to Avoid – 2012 Quaker State 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
He is coming off a win last weekend at Infineon, but bettors need to think twice about going with Clint Bowyer at Kentucky. He finished a dismal 36th at Kentucky last year, and he doesn’t have a single top-five finish in his last 10 starts at 1.5-mile tracks. A win may be out of reach for Bowyer this weekend.
