2012 Summit League Tournament Odds and Predictions to Win 2012 Summit League Tournament – 2012 Summit League Tournament Favorites, Sleepers, Schedule and TV Listings plus Expert Picks: The Summit League hasn’t made as much noise in the NCAA tournament as some of the other mid-major conferences in recent years, but that could change this year. The conference boasts several of the top scoring teams in the country, as well as some dynamic scorers. That being said, just one team is likely to make the NCAA tournament. With everything at stake in the conference tournament and plenty of firepower on display, the Summit League could produce some high-scoring games as teams fight for a spot in March Madness.
The Favorite – 2012 Summit League Conference Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
There is a chance that the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (26-5) could make the NCAA tournament even without winning the Summit League tournament. However, Oral Roberts can end any doubt by backing up its regular season conference title with a tournament crown, as well. The Golden Eagles rank 10th in the country in field goal percentage, shooting 49.0 percent as a team. They have four players scoring in double figures, with forward Dominique Morrison leading the way. Morrison scores more than 20 points a game for a solid offensive team. Oral Roberts has been the class of the conference all year, and there is no reason to expect it to change.
The Dark Horses – 2012 Summit League Conference Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
They didn’t have enough to take down Oral Roberts during the regular season, but the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (24-7) were by far the second-best team in the Summit League this year. They ranked in the top 15 nationally in points per game, scoring 78.6 a contest. Guard Nate Wolters leads the way, averaging a team-high 21.2 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 6.1 assists. More importantly, the Jackrabbits defeated the conference champion Golden Eagles by 15 points and split the season series. The two teams could rematch for the conference crown, with the winner earning the NCAA tournament bid.
Although the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (17-14) weren’t a factor for the Summit League regular season title, they could make some noise in the conference tournament. The Golden Grizzlies rank 10th in the country in points per game, and guards Reggie Hamilton and Travis Bader give them one of the dynamic scoring backcourts in the conference. Hamilton averages a team-high 25.5, with Bader pouring in 15.6 per game. The two have combined for 202 3-pointers this season, and if they start knocking down shots from the perimeter in the tournament, the Golden Grizzlies could upset the top dogs.
Sleeper Special – 2012 Summit League Conference Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
The Western Illinois Leathernecks (16-13) don’t put a ton of points on the board, but they don’t need to with the defense they bring to the table. The Leathernecks own the top defense in the Summit League, allowing less than 61 points per game. Western Illinois owns victories of the second and third-place teams in the conference during the regular season, and the Leathernecks took conference champion Oral Roberts to double overtime before losing by a single point. With their stout defense, the Leathernecks can make any game interesting.
