2011 Belmont Stakes Odds, Free Picks, Tips and Predictions – Favorites and Lines to Win 143rd Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park June 11th, 2011: Early Vegas Betting Odds to Win the 2011 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on June 11th are now posted on NSAwins.com and the vegas oddsmakers have made Animal Kingdom the 5/2(+265) early vegas favorite to win the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes.

This Saturday in Saratoga, the third and final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown will take place with the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes. The 1.5-mile, sandy track is the longest of the three Triple Crown events. Thanks in part to its length, the race has developed quite a reputation. While there is some debate over whether the Belmont was first called the “Graveyard of Champions” or the “Graveyard of Favorites,” the sentiment remains the same. Saturday’s race is grueling affair and a true test of a horse’s stamina.

The Triple Crown won’t be up for grabs this weekend, and while that does suck some of the drama out of the Belmont, it by no means devalues the race. Winning in Saratoga can have a major impact on a horse’s breeding stock. Owners and trainers are always looking for that perfect combination of speed and endurance, and winning the Belmont requires a horse to have plenty of the latter.

2011 Belmont Stakes: The Favorites

After winning the Kentucky Derby and falling just short at the Preakness, Animal Kingdom has to be considered the favorite to win the Belmont. The horse is a slow starter, which probably cost him a shot at the Triple Crown, but he has already proven he gets stronger the longer he runs. Animal Kingdom already appears to be the best horse in the field, and the added length of the Belmont should only help his chances.

After nearly winning the Kentucky Derby, Nehro will be back in action this weekend in Saratoga. The horse sat out the Preakness, and the rest could end up paying dividends in the late stages of the Belmont. Nehro has finished second in his last three races, and late moves toward the front of the field have become commonplace. He should be in the mix again Saturday.

2011 Belmont Stakes: Potential Sleepers

After struggling in the Preakness, many people have written off Mucho Macho Man. However, it was later discovered that a loose shoe contributed to the horse’s poor performance. Mucho Macho Man is a proven competitor, and he has finished in the top three in eight of his 10 starts, including a third-place run in the Kentucky Derby.

Although Brilliant Speed struggled in the Kentucky Derby, the horse has proven in the past that he can compete and win against Grade I competition. He has finished in the top three in three of his four races this year, and his previous starts suggest he has a decent combination of speed and stamina. Brilliant Speed hasn’t quite lived up to his potential on a big stage, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen this weekend.

Flying under the radar is Santiva, but the horse could fly into the lead down the stretch of Saturday’s race. He was sired by Giant’s Causeway – a horse widely considered one of the best of its generation, especially in the stamina department. Santiva was bred for endurance and staying power, and the Belmont should play to his strengths in a big way.

2011 Belmont Stakes: Horses to Avoid

Coming off a win in the Preakness, it’s hard to knock Shackleford. That being said, the horse is definitely more of a frontrunner than a closer. Shackleford faded down the stretch in the Kentucky Derby, and he did the same in the Preakness, even though he was able to hang on for the win. With the added length of the Belmont, his late race fade will only be more dramatic and will likely cost him a shot at the win.

Bettors looking for a longshot shouldn’t look at Isn’t He Perfect. The horse has consistently been a non-factor this season, including two lackluster performances in the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Isn’t He Perfect is one horse that can be labeled a bust in this 12-horse field.
