Free MLB Picks and Odds: Toronto Blue Jays @ Minnesota Twins Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Predictions 5/13/11: The Toronto Blue Jays showed some grit and fight in their two- game series sweep of the Boston Red Sox earlier in the week and now they will attempt to ride that momentum into the Twin Cities. They excelled at the plate by pumping in 16 runs against the mighty pitching nucleus of the Sox and they were not intimidated defensively by the bats of Boston as well. They worked hard to earn the initial run of the games and they leaned on clutch pitching and sound defensive prowess. Kyle Drabek and Jesse Litsch both performed admirably and they made solid cases to stay up with the big club in the midst of public and media scrutiny. Jose Bautista is proving why he deserved that large contract he signed over the offseason as the home run king already has 11 dingers on the season and he is batting a hot .350. Many thought Jose might have been a one season wonder, but he has shown up this year and has given hope to the entire Toronto franchise. Not only is he doing it on the field, but he is providing a solid veteran voice and model on the field and in the dressing room. Countless times Bautista is caught coaching up some of the younger players on the Jays squad and he is no stranger to getting vocal in the midst of a tilt. It will take this type of determination and will for the Toronto Blue Jays to claw their way back into the AL East picture and made things interesting come late September.
The Minnesota Twins are off to their worst start in over 6 years and there seems to be no sign for relief. There pitching is off kilter and their big stars are not getting it done at the plate. The pair of Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer has 1 home run split between the two of them, strong indicators that this team is in trouble early. Perennial power hitters, Mauer and Morneau are finding themselves down early in counts and are almost trying too hard to hit it over the fence, rather than get on base. If the Twins have any aspirations of going on a long run and getting back into things then they will have to get these two stars in a comfort level at the plate. They are currently in the midst of an ugly 5 game losing streak in which they have given up 30 runs in their last four, pitching has been at the fore front of all issues surrounding this team. Analysts had this pitching rotation as being one of the sleepers coming into the season and thought that they might have assembled one of the best-cheapest units in some time. Skip forward to today, they have the worst rotation among big league teams and there is no sign of relief developing in the minors. The entire rotation is allowing too many free bases and coughing up far too many long balls.
The complimentary selection tonight will be the Toronto Blue Jays(get more free sports picks) on the road. As stated in previous forecasts, the Jays excel in opening games and it is imperative for them to seek out the first win. They have been on a streak of opening tilt wins and I don’t see it changing tonight. They will send their questionable ace in Ricky Romero to the mound tonight who is in need of a strong performance. He baffled the Twins on opening night in Toronto almost a month and a half ago, his strongest outing of this early campaign. He has been getting increasingly stronger over the past couple of starts, after an awful end to April, and he is blossoming quite nicely into the potential of pitcher he needs to be. The Twins will counter with Carl Pavano on the mound tonight who is looking more and more his age by the start. There are rumblings that he may find himself on the unemployment line sooner, rather than later, if he cannot sort out his ineptness on the mound. Toronto roughed Pavano up in early April and I expect much the same in mid May. We will consider the Toronto Blue Jays opening up the three game set with a win tonight. Cheers!
