No longer is this club being a push over to gain valuable wins on, they are competing and flexing their muscle in every tilt they enter into. The Royals (19-17) are getting contributions all over the ball park and their pitching rotation is one of the most underrated units in the entire league. One of the main components of the turn to relevancy has been the maturation of all-star left-fielder Alex Gordon. Since being drafted high in the first round by the Royals almost 5 years ago, Gordon was projected to be the face of the franchise for many years to come. He brought a list of credentials and accolades from college ball and many analysts had him being the next big thing in major league baseball. Yet, for all of the hype he has failed to realize his potential until this season. He is having a career year to this point and he is giving the Royals reason to believe that they can emerge victorious whenever he is in the starting lineup. Gordon is swinging for a .298 AVG with 3 homers and 23 RBI, he has yet to accumulate an error in the field as well. Tonight the Royals send Sean O’Sullivan to the mound for his 5th start of the season. The young right hander is putting together a solid season to this point with a 3.41 ERA in 29 innings of work, he sports a 1-2 record.

The New York Yankees will look for the series win tonight at home as they dropped last night’s contest against the Royals, 4-3 being the final tally. The Yanks are leading the American League East division to this point and all signs point to them earning another division crown again. The offense is lethal and their pitching rotation is nothing to snub. Alex Rodriguez is having a huge season to this point, which is helping fend off the scrutiny he has received for the majority of his Yankee career. The Bronx bombers will send Ivan Nova to the mound tonight to look for the series win, he has a 4.08 ERA and sports a 3-2 record. Nova has an extremely deceptive breaking ball and he rarely puts batters on the base freely. He likes to pound the strike zone early and often and is a quick mover. One knock on Nova is that he fails to pitch deep into games, which compromises the bull pen. The Yankees will want to earn a quick victory tonight in order to prep themselves for their massive weekend series against the Boston Red Sox.
