2019 FireKeepers Casino 400 Picks & Predictions – Value Bets & Sleepers at Michigan International Speedway: Michigan International Speedway is the next stop on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule, and the wide, D-shaped oval is one of just two tracks on the schedule with a two-mile layout.
Like its sister track, Auto Club Speedway, Michigan is known for multiple racing grooves, long straightaways and long green flag stretches. In the past, all these factors made Michigan a great spot to roll the dice on sleepers because the lack of cautions often led to fuel mileage finishes.
Unfortunately, NASCAR’s introduction of stage racing and this year’s reduced-horsepower package have lessened that to a degree, but while you may not be able to gamble on total longshots anymore, there are still some value bets that could deliver a big payday this weekend. You just need to stick to some of the second-tier drivers on the top teams.

Value Bets
Ryan Blaney (20/1)
Team Penske has been one of the best organizations at Michigan, and after joining the team last year, Blaney immediately enjoyed the benefits. He led 15 laps and finished eighth in the June race here last year, and he came back in August and delivered a top-five finish. He also logged a top-five finish at Auto Club in join, so it is clear that Blaney has a setup that can contend at these two-mile ovals. Both of his teammates are among the betting favorites, but Blaney gives you exposure to the same equipment while offering double the potential profit on the same bet.
Clint Bowyer (20/1)
While Bowyer doesn’t usually win a lot of races, I do think there is some value to be had with him this weekend. For one, he is the defending winner of this weekend’s race after outdueling his teammate Kevin Harvick in a rain-shortened race last June. More importantly, the No. 14 team really seems to have the reduced-horsepower package being used in 2019 figured out for these larger tracks. Bowyer has recorded five top-five finishes this year, and four of those have come at track that were a mile and a half or bigger. Watch out for Bowyer this weekend.
Alex Bowman (30/1)
His numbers at Michigan haven’t been impressive thus far, but Bowman has taken a big step forward as a driver in recent weeks. He heads into Sunday’s race riding a streak of five straight top-15s, and he has finished seventh or better four times in that stretch, logging three second-place finishes. One of those runner-up efforts came at Kansas, a track often compared to Michigan, and Bowman also led 63 laps in that race. It seems like a matter of when and not if he will visit victory lane, and at 30/1, I like the idea of playing Bowman’s hot hand.
Sleeper Special
Austin Dillon (80/1)
Dillon is far from the best driver out there, but Richard Childress Racing teams have always seemed to perform well at Michigan. For his part, Dillon has finished 16th or better in six of his last seven starts at the track, logging four top-10s in that stretch. He also sat on the pole and finished in the top 10 at Auto Club Speedway back in March. After Dillon, I don’t see any driver getting longer odds who will even have the speed to work a strategy play to try to steal the win Sunday. I think he is the best longshot on the board this weekend.
