2015 College Football Picks & Predictions – Week 2 College Football Power Rankings Top 10 List: The 2015 College Football season is underway and week 1 featured a lot of mismatches and outright blowouts. Many top tier teams weren’t tested and looked impressive beating up on non-conference cupcakes but some of the nation’s top teams will be tested in week 2 with a few tough non-conference matchups on the slate. It’s always tough trying to accurately rank the top 10 teams in College Football this early in the year because a lot of it is purely based on expectations and basing a lot of it on returning players from last season and trying to forecast how those players will perform with another year of experience under their belt. In any event, here is our week 2 College Football Power Rankings Top 10 List as we see it. Don’t forget to check out our expert college football picks against the spread this week as our top handicappers will be releasing strong premium 2015 football picks to bet on this week on college football and NFL action.
2015 College Football Picks & Predictions – Week 2 College Football Power Rankings Top 10 List
1. Ohio State Buckeyes – This is as easy as it gets as Ohio State is by far the best team in college football at the moment. Frankly, it’s not even close. Head coach Urban Meyer has an absolute embarrassment of riches on offense and it was on full display this past Monday when they took over the game and rolled in the 2nd half at Virginia Tech to win 42-24. The Buckeyes schedule is so easy from here on out until they play at home against Michigan State on November 21st that it’s not even funny. It will be an upset if a team comes within 3 touchdowns playing them until they play Sparty.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide – Head coach Nick Saban has another talented team in Tuscaloosa and they easily dismantled a solid Wisconsin team in their opener 35-17. The jury is still out on whether they have enough offensively to truly be a legit National Title contender and win the SEC West but we liked what we saw last week. Saban’s defense is always one of the toughest in the nation and this year should be no different. If the offense can keep improving than Bama may be able to give Ohio State a game in the College Football Playoff.
3. TCU Horned Frogs – The Horned Frogs picked up a solid road win at Minnesota in week 1 by winning 23-17 but didn’t come close to covering the -16.5 spread. Head coach Gary Patterson’s team lowest point total last season was 30 against Minnesota and this time around they were held to even fewer. Don’t expect TCU’s offense to be held to that few amount of points in any game again the rest of the season. TCU’s offense should get back into high gear this week against Stephen F. Austin.
4. Michigan State Spartans – The Spartans are an excellent football team on both sides of the ball and very easily could move up these rankings to number 2 next week if they beat Oregon at home. The Spartans won 37-24 in week 1 over Western Michigan on the road in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score looked. Michigan State will be motivated this week to avenge last season’s 46-27 loss at Oregon.
5. Auburn Tigers – Head coach Gus Malzhan can’t be happy with the way his team played in week 1 after jumping out to a 24-0 lead over Louisville and had to hang on to win 31-24. Auburn is a much better football team than they showed in week 1 and will prove it as the season goes on. Look for new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to continue Auburn’s improvement on defense and that will be the big story for Auburn as the season moves on.
6. Baylor Bears – The Baylor Bears thoroughly dominated the SMU Mustangs 56-21 in week 1 and that was to be expected. Having said that, we are still not convinced the Baylor defense has what it takes to enable the Bears to make a serious run at a National Championship and figure they will get exposed as they play better teams.
7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Head coach Brian Kelly’s team looked outstanding in dismantling Texas 38-3 in a week 1 laugher at South Bend. Quarterback Malik Zaire was impressive in throwing for 313 yards by completing 19 out of 22 passes for 3 touchdowns. The Irish may be for real this season.
8. Georgia Bulldogs – The Bulldogs did nothing to make us doubt that they the team to beat in the SEC East this season with their 51-14 win over Louisiana Monroe. Georgia is extremely solid on both sides of the ball and can make a real run at winning the SEC this season if they stay healthy.
9. USC Trojans – The Trojans completely outclassed a helpless Arkansas State team at home in week 1 with a 55-6 woodshed beating. Quarterback Cody Kessler is the real deal and USC may have the best offense in the nation this season and certainly on the west coast. The defense is something we still question but it will be a couple weeks before they get tested for real.
10. Florida State Seminoles – A lot of people are counting out head coach Jimbo Fisher’s FSU squad this season thinking the loss of Jameis Winston will be too much to overcome. Thing again. Former Notre Dame signal caller Everett Golson was tremendous in his FSU debut in week 1 as he threw for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 59-16 whooping over Texas State. FSU figures to be in the Top 10 all season long as far as we are concerned.
