2012 America East Conference Tournament Odds and Predictions to Win 2012 America East Tournament – 2012 America East Tournament Favorites, Sleepers, Schedule and TV Listings plus Expert Picks: The America East Conference tournament is a winner-take-all situation. The only team that is going to make the NCAA tournament is the team that wins the conference tournament. For the top teams in the America East, it means that a season’s worth of hard work can be ruined by one off night. For the rest of the conference, it is a chance to hit the reset button and make one last push to be a part of March Madness.
The Favorite – 2012 America East Conference Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
Powered by an incredible finish to the regular season, the Stony Brook Seawolves (20-8) won the America East regular season title. The Seawolves won 11 of their final 12 games, relying heavily on their defense that is allowing less than 60 points per game. Stony Brook doesn’t have an explosive offense, and guard Bryan Dougher is the only player averaging double figures for the year. He is also the only player that is a legitimate perimeter threat. While the Seawolves lack firepower on the offensive end, it’s tough to discount what they managed to do during conference play. There is no reason Stony Brook can’t keep winning with defense.
The Dark Horses – 2012 America East Conference Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
After splitting the regular season meetings with Stony Brook, the Vermont Catamounts (20-11) have to be hoping for a rematch with the Seawolves in the American East tournament. The Catamounts have a unique approach on the offensive end, relying on forward Brian Voelkel to be a distributor. Although he lacks an offensive game, Voelkel leads Vermont in rebounding, assists and steals. By playing out of the post, Vermont is able to create open looks on the perimeter. The style has allowed the Catamounts to become one of the higher-scoring teams in the conference, and it could lead them into the NCAA tournament.
Don’t let the Boston University Terriers’ 16-15 record fool you. They had a brutal out-of-conference schedule but went 12-4 in conference play. The Terriers have one of the better backcourts in the America East Conference, with Darryl Partin and D.J. Irving. Partin is averaging more than 19 points per game, and Irving is dishing out more than five assists per game and scoring in double figures. Guard play is always crucial come tournament time, and with duo Boston University brings to the table, the Terriers can’t be counted out.
Sleeper Special – 2012 America East Conference Tournament Odds, Predictions and Expert Picks
Despite finishing a distant fourth in conference play, the Albany Great Danes (18-13) could surprise the top dogs in the America East tournament. After all, Albany is the top scoring team in the conference, averaging almost 73 points per game. Led by guard Gerardo Suero, the Great Danes have three player averaging more than 13 points per game. Suero is averaging almost 22 points a game in his own right, and Albany has six players that can knock down shots from beyond the arc. If Suero and company string together a few good shooting games, especially from 3-point range, the Great Danes have the firepower on offense to pull off an upset and steal a bid to the NCAA tournament.
